C15 Sleeve Gear bush

I've read that the sleeve gear bushes on C15s can get grooved.

Photo of mine attached.

1. Do I need to replace the bush? No idea whether the groove that is there should be there or not!
2. If I need to buy the later two piece steel backed bushes, where can I buy them in the UK? I can't seem to find them online for some reason.

I know nothing of the C15 gearbox internals, but that groove doesn't look like it is supposed to be there at all to me!

Hi,

This wear is usually caused by the oil seal being a bit hard compared to the bush material.  Ultimately the outer bit could break off so it is probably worth replacing it. This also occurs on A50/A65s etc.  The later/replacement bushes are available as a two skin bush with steel on the outside.

Also, I tried to get the old one out at the weekend.

In the Rupert Ratio manual it said to hacksaw the protruding end so it could fold in on itself. I had limited success at even hacksawing it as my hacksaw is rubbish.

Have you got any idea how to get the thing out?

Hi,

I think the RR suggestion is what I have done in the past.  With great care and a good hacksaw blade you can score the full length of the bush creating a weak line so that you can then fold it in on itself a bit easier.  I suppose if you could make and an accurate drift you could push it out with a press.
With all the unit single being worked on out there must be someone with recent experience and even a better technique.

For the bush; have you tried P.E.S in Goldthorpe near Doncaster?

Just for information, imperial sized split bushes are numbered as such :-
XXYYZZ with XX= ID in 1/16" ,  YY= OD in 1/16" and ZZ= length in 1/8" , so for example a bush with ID of 1" and OD of 1 1/8" and length 1 1/2" the designation would be 161812.
