Alternator grommet (1965 B40F)
« on: 26 February, 2021, 17:52:40 »
Evening all,

Does anybody know the part number for the grommet which the three alternator wires pass through as they leave the primary chaincase? I bought one over the phone from Kidderminster Motorcycles, part no. 40-705, but it doesn't look wide enough between the shoulders to span in a wall of that thickness, ie the groove doesn't seem wide enough.

Draganfly gave me a part no. 53-0242 superseded by 41-0715, but they don't have any in stock, and in any case when I look them up on line they appear to include a kind of extension/boot rather than being just an ordinary circular grommet. The old one I've removed is just circular jobby.

Anybody know?

Phil

53 0242 is the grommet for the LT ignition lead, where it passes into the inner timing cover on the way to the points, nothing like the alternator lead grommet.

What about one of these?

Yes that's the one Kidderminster sent me but, as I say, the  channel / groove doesn't look wide enough to span the thickness of the casing.   Phil

Amazing how much they stretch when they've been in hot water and have a bit of silicone!
