Strobe light and wasted spark
« on: 13 October, 2020, 11:38:53 »
Good morning,

I am getting weird results when using a strobe light to check my timing and cannot understand why.  Then a lightbulb moment happened.  I have Boyer fitted and it produces a wasted spark so I think that the strobe was firing twice as many times.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?

Dave.

Not had that problem with strobing the single cylinder E*****d equippedwith Boyer & wasted spark.
However I did use a separate 12v battery to power the Gunson strobe.
Did you do likewise or did you use the bike battery?

+1 on Bryans answer Dave.. Also I may be wrong but the wasted spark will occur at the same point BTDC won't it?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.  I did not use a separate battery and the wasted spark still counts a rev so does not matter.
I must admit I have had a strobe for years but never really used it.
So separate battery then.

Dave.

Hi,
I use the bikes battery without an issue, is the HT lead clamp on the correct way around?

Best wishes...

Hi Bess,

It is a Gunson Strobascope and has a conical spiral thingy that fits over the plug and the plug cap fits on the other end.
One thing I did notice is that the fit is not that good so I will make it more secure to eliminate potential rogue sparks.
I will give it another go tomorrow.
