Got pictures but can't put them on site as the size is too big. My technical ability will not let me shrink them.... Griff

If the bike is distributor model than the gear shaft bushes are quite difficult - the clutch end bush is blind as is the bush in the kickstart quadrant on the other end so you cannot line ream. You may find that the clutch end bush is the right size when fitted.

The mainshaft sleeve gear bush is, if I remember correctly, larger diameter than the inner cover bush, making line reaming difficult.

So the advice to take to a proper engineering shop is good advice.

Singles / Re: Carb - gaskets/sealing
« Last post by hoogerbooger on 24 April, 2018, 18:25:59 »
Am having trouble searching out a tufnol spacer on-line

Amal list phenolic spacers. These the same/do same job ? :

http://amalcarb.co.uk/phenolic-spacer-26mm.html

My carb is a 27mm choke. Spacers found so far are either 26mm or 28mm. So what's best. Will one or other do as they are ......or should I get a 26mm and sand it out to 27mm ?

So then greased paper gaskets either side of the tufnol/phenolic insulator ?

The camshaft bushes need to be line reamed to give a clearance of about 1 thou in both bushes. I haven't looked up the clearance for the layshaft bush but it's probably 1-2 thou. I would recommend get the bushes reamed in a proper engineering shop.

I don't think a double gasket is a good idea - the better solution is either to get one of the correct thickness or to skim the top of the cylinder to enable the gasket you've got to fit correctly with 4 thou or so compression.
