I have a test rig for pumps and p r v ,I have tested newly made stainless unit and found it leaking at 20 lbs ,
After investigating it turned out the threads were under size oil was passing by them before valve opens,
Tested a 60 odd year old original and that was 50 lbs , the pumps on rig are visible and when pressure build up I can see oil bleeding from the joints of pump , where as pressure is good we also need flow ,and some journal when ground loos the little flats where oil comes out and reduces flow

I stand corrected you do have it the right way round, I couldn’t see photo very well ,I now see your image is the for seal holder ,( at first it look light bottom slider , my apologies )

Yes there was 2x different lengths ,short earlier models ( not sure on exact year) ,longer bush gave more support in legs , if you use longer in your forks it will alter spring tension ,more pre load ,

My opinion yes ,all my bike I have them fitted , all I would say is take them apart firs and check jets are fitted tightly, had couple that played up while riding and found either needle jet or main jet loose and partially undone it’s  self , tight up and absolutely spot on since been on few years now , good response through rev range and nice stable tick over

Singles / Re: No oil return at all. New oil pump
« on: 14 January, 2024, 15:59:47 »
First thing I would look at is the new spring you bought ,from some of the springs I have seen they are far to strong ,much stronger  than standard , state the obvious you have the pipe on right way round , I can take a while for oil to return , I would start bike and slacken off the nut that secured spring/ball to first see if any oil is being feed from pump up to crankshaft , another little check the gauze filter in sump is correct way round so hole in gauze lines up with scavenge on pump , be sure pump it’s self is flat against crankcase inside and not trapped on the location ring , I always slacken of feed pipe at engine end to make sure no air lock from tank to pump , in this cold weather it can take a while to get through oil tank filte down to pump , also some after market oil tank filters the gauze is finer that standard one , above  may give few thing to try ,

As mention before I have sold and use lots of these pumps and up to date every one has been faultless
All the best hope you get sorted Roy

Yep - happened on mine twice now.  I don't like two chains running side by side.
There's no sprag clutch so the smaller of the two sprockets is constantly running at roughly three times crank speed.

Thank you for reply ,sorry to hear you have had a couple of failures, if there is no sprag bearing in the system what’s is stopping the starter from spinning whilst engine is running ,
Have you ever grounded out motor, speed humps or Kerbs , getting my bikes in shed my be problem getting up small step ,Roy

Good morning ,thank you both for your comments, was/ am tad concerned about less ground clearance, kerbs and the ever increasing speed humps in road etc , 25mm approx not so bad I guess and may be a sump guard / protector give more piece of mind , the reliability is really good feed back , have you both converted to 12 volts , I’m guessing at  both systems used a sprag bearing , I have herd of the drive chain breaking on the singles ,but as mention quite possibly to advance ign and kick backs both my single and twins have auto advance fitted , I did/am toying with the idea of trying to fit one on top of gear box and graft ring gear on clutch ,and use bendix on starter ,how far I get is another thing ,beautiful thing about under slung is it’s out of site ,( takes by stander’s by surprise when starting ,I like that 👍 ) all the best have fun take care ,Roy

I have fitted and sold lots of pumps for road and race , no bolts come with pumps , I have done plenty of testing without pinion gears etc fitted ,and None of the pumps have pinched / locked like std pumps ,so my own opinion is just fit , I can throughly recommend these pumps ,they have very close tolerances inside ,
Fit and forget ,

It may pay to to take out the little round inspection caps from rocker box just to check all the push rod are correctly located on the ball of rocker arms , just to be safe
