Thank you for that, just what I was looking for .
Mine doesn't have any punch marks so guessing it's original.

Shame really as it looks in pretty good condition except for the crack lol . I did consider soldering it up

Would I need to set the height of the tube or is it a fit and forget thing ?  I thought bolting the cover on would settle it
to the correct height ?

Found the tube ( Big end oil feed quill )

is it a home job or will it need an adult to do it for me  ?

Singles / I'm a Bellend B33 Oil feed tube

In an attempt to get the timing right on my B33 plunger I took off the timing side cover and damaged the crank shaft oil feed tube.
When I say damaged I mean snapped it at the shoulder ..

First off how hard is it to remove before I get all caveman with it. And where can I get a new tube ?

Cheers ..

Singles / C15 road gearing ?

Hi

I have looked but the BSA gearing chart I can find is for competition gearing, what would be a good all round sprocket
combo for road use.

BSA parts bulletin G15 from 1960 lists 7 different 3 1/4 inch round tank badge colour combinations, 6 variations of part 56 8220 and 1 part 41 8004. Unfortunately it does not tell use which badge went with which bike. I think it inevitable, due to the demand, that not all colours will be available as newly made items.

BSA master price list from September 1970 has "use 41 8004" against part 65 8220.
saving that thank you, i waiting on some black with silver star from India, cant wait to see how they look

Singles / Re: can i drill my crank ?
12 March, 2023, 14:23:34
Thank you everyone, I didn't finish drilling the crank as a really good rare earth magnet  to hold the
timing wheel worked just fine.
thanks to idie , feel free to take last Thursday off as a reward :-)

Get a small magnet and hold the timing disc onto the end of the crankshaft using the magnet.

Singles / more mag stuff again sorry.
12 March, 2023, 14:21:16
hiya

just a small one for anyone with the knowledge,
I have taken my magneto out again and with a spark plug in the HT lead I can get a spark
just with turning by hand, easily.

What is bothering me is that I feel almost no resistance from the internal magnets ?

I bought an old unit from ebay that is for a twin cylinder thinking I might rob some parts from it
but turning that one by hand there is a noticeable magnet resistance when turning it by hand, so
much so that I have to put a spanner on the shaft..

should i send it off for re-magentizing even though it sparks ?

yes a good idea, thanks.
I have drilled a little to see how hard it is, not that bad actually so i suspect it is just case hardened.
I will drill and tap it as I can't see any harm. its a B33

Singles / can i drill my crank ?
01 March, 2023, 18:16:59
hiya all

I want to use a timing wheel on the end of the crank but there is only the centering hole in the
crank end, would it be ok if I drill out the crank end and tap it to about 6mm ish so i can fix the
timing wheel on there. I wouldn't go too deep, maybe 1/2"

I would imagine that you've cleaned and adjusted the contact points, they are .012" gap.
The other important thing is there must not be any suppression in the plug lead , in other words 0 ohms resistance in the plug cap.
Worth checking this.

thank you, i will check it all again on sunday. I have some new champion plugs on the way too.
NGK plugs suck on older engines, I do classic mini coopers and if NGK plugs get flooded they never
seem to work well afterwards.

Very weak spark if it is yellow in colour.
thats what is confusing me , the spark looks to be very good, not weak at all but just yellow.
But also I am new to Mags.
Originally I had no spark at all so was looking at rewinding it but removed the mag from the bike and spun it up with a drill and it sparks fine,
Put it back in the bike and it sparks well on the kick start.

It has a new looking Lucas metal label on it so seems like it has had some work in the past.

hi all

Finally got the mag sparking and it is pretty bright at the spark plug, the only thing that bothers me is the spark
is yellow not blue ?
Bike still won't start so wondering if the spark colour is an indication of anything ?
