Twins / Spitfire Multispark
« on: 23 June, 2018, 19:03:42 »
I saw one of the Spitfire Multispark on fleabay which is fitted to HT lead and supposed to improve starting or in my case stop fouling plugs with increased pulses to spark plug. Are they worth buying or just another gimmick?

Twins / Useless Choke Cable
« on: 24 April, 2018, 13:46:05 »
I have fitted all new cables to my bike whilst doing it up to prevent any misdemeanours whist out riding but sadly my choke cable lasted all of less than 50 miles :(
I am sure that it was fitted correctly but the nipple cam off the end thankfully I retrieved it from the 389 monobloc carb.
I was stranded and had a lengthy walk pushing home around five miles - nice that so many bikers just passed me by......

Anyway got me thinking the bike never needs the choke to start and I dont use in cold weather so could I safely remove it without any issues?

Twins / Re: Steering head adjustment 1962 A65 Star

Thanks ever so much good people for the help. All went well until the bottom barrel and clip off the steering damper fell off - a nightmare trying to get the four keyways on the small barrel to line up ::)

Twins / Steering head adjustment 1962 A65 Star

I managed to get the 1962 A65 Star through the MOT today (hopefully the last one! ). One advisory was a bit of play in the head stock. I have looked at the Haynes manual but it dont explain the task. Can anyone point me in the right direction please as never done the job before :)

The Star and Garter / Re: Bike recovery

Be careful with these so called recovery schemes with insurance companies. I was with my mate a while back on a club ride out around 120 miles from home and he got a puncture on his Harley. He contacted his insurance company and they said he was covered in his policy for the first 10 miles free and 1 per mile thereafter which would have cost him 110  >:(
Fortunately my wife is a joint AA member so became his pillion and both of them and the bike got home for free. I have never found anything better than the AA cover for any of my vehicles . You gets what you pay for....... ;)

Twins / Choke whats wrong?
« on: 06 March, 2018, 19:39:48 »
Me again! I finally got the A65 started after several kicks but when I did I noticed that whatever I did with the choke lever it made no difference to the running of the bike. The choke slide can be seen working and cable works freely and the bike runs lovely and ticks over a treat so what is wrong with the choke operation as I have not got a clue.... :-\
It has a 389 monoblock carb with a bellmouth and electronic ignition.

The Star and Garter / New MOT Rules
« on: 26 February, 2018, 20:27:31 »
I know its been brought to the forums attention but has anyone worked out yet how the new mot is going to affect the oldie bikes especially specials. It seems like a bit of a minefield. My bike is is totally roadworthy and I have nothing to fear with mots. My mot is in April so do I bother getting an mot or sorn for a month and get away with no mot ever again.....
But then again my bike is not standard with a 1962 A50 frame and 1964 A65 Rocket engine so will that qualify as exempt? Then there is the issue of Insurance - if you are unlucky enough to have a crash will they pay up if you cant prove your bike is roadworthy through the mot? Like I said its a minefield  :-\
