Singles / Scavenge non-return valve
« on: 11 May, 2018, 22:48:53 »
I have a 1969 BSA B25 Starfire that is leaving a larger than normal oil pool underneath.  I've checked in my handy, dandy Workshop Manual and it suggests a stuck scavenge non-return valve.  The method recommended is to use a piece of wire to push the ball inside up and see if it falls of it's own accord.  I'm thinking it doesn't, so the manual recommends immersing the pipe in petrol for a short period.
That's all well and good.  But how do you do that?  The valve appears to be a small pipe sticking down about 6-10mm and seems firmly affixed to the crankcase.  How the heck do you immerse that?!

Many thanks, to everyone.  I didn't realize language was such an issue.  Since I'm in the United Sates of America, I tend to speak Amurican English.  Although it's pretty much a mish mash of languages from all over planet Earth.  But, we're communicating.   :o

5/16 inch, 150 degree dual banjo.  Got it!  Thanks.   :)

Singles / Fuel petcock/fuel line

I have a 1969 BSA B25s Starfire that has a cracked fuel line.
Any parts book I can find shows only one petcock branching into two lines.

Mine has two petcocks.  One on each side of the tank merging at the carburetor.

Can anyone help me figure out where to find the part number?
And a good place to buy one?

Duh!  Good question.  It's a 1969 BSA B25s Starfire.
Thru trial and error I got it off with a 24mm socket.
Thanks for your response.

Can anyone tell me what size wrench I need for the gearbox drain plug.  I don't have the right size and will have to buy one.  Knowing the size will make it lots easier.
Thanks for your help.

Singles / Paint Scheme
« on: 06 November, 2017, 19:14:16 »
Just bought my first BSA B25 Starfire (1969) that I hope to refresh a bit.  It seems in pretty good shape, but I think it may have had a repaint at some time.   Now it has the nice orange color from that year, but it seems the side covers were once upon a time blue.
The questions I have are about the gas tank:
*  Did they come from the factory orange with a "moss green" stripe down the middle of the top side?  How wide was this stripe?
*  It appears the strip might have been bounded on both sides by a narrow black stripe.  True?
*  Did the side covers have a thin pin stripe following the inner contours?
*  Did the tank have knee pads?

I've seen them with and without the above on the net.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.
