Yes as you say a separate nut holds the banjo it resembles a half nut which leaves plenty of room for the oil pipe nut.
I have just had a look on SRM site they do a nut just for this job.

I have a bit of a drip from the oil return banjo from the rockers on my oil tank fitting I have dismantled the union and it has fibre washers each side of the banjo and a small nut, would I be better using dowty washers each side and is there a special nut that should be used as I think the oil will leak along the threads.

After reaching the age of 60 I thought I would treat myself to a goldie well after owning it for three months the novelty has worn off the guy I bought it from had owned it for 30 years and loved it well I am going to stick to my jap bikes so it will be going up for sale it is a 62 DBD34 clubmans trim.

I am looking for a new rubber seal for a gold star cap I can find lots of caps but not the rubber seals.
I have looked on eBay and some of the new caps do not have a seal on them.

I have a A10 timing cover with what looks like a factory rev counter mounting adjacent to the mag drive,
I thought they picked up a drive from the oil pump can anyone enlighten me.
