The Star and Garter / How to straighten a footrest.
« on: 25 July, 2020, 16:35:32 »
My old footrest has obviously been on the floor at some stage. It is almost touching the clutch crank case. What sort of temperature will I need to put this in a vice and bend it back. I think these were made of Pig Iron. ( Are we allowed to say that ) ? Thanks.

The one on my old Commando had a roll pin at one end. Bit of lubrication on the pin and a small drift. Hope this helps.

Twins / Lightning carbs
« on: 19 July, 2020, 15:49:33 »
Went to see my mates new barn find. We pulled the carbs off and cleaned the relevant sections. The mixture screw on the near-side was one turn out and off side 1/2 a turn out. ?? I put them back as I found them but cleaner. Each carb had one flat flange washer. no heat insulators and no o rings. New battery and the thing started and ran and ticked over, no smoke or rattles. I started it without the filthy air filters. Which gaskets should be on the manifolds and opinions re the mixture screws please ( 1970 ) Thanks.

I think I used the lower level when it was cold, that is quite a big tank in the OIF, mine was 1972.

My painter scans a sample and his supplier matches it. I thought it was common place in this day and age. Good luck.

Lambretta do some nice light alloy clips, they have been using them for over 40 years to retain clutch, brake and gear cables to the frame , not expensive.

The hubs can go oval and need spinning up on a lathe for about £20 in an engineers workshop. Problem is the wheel will have to be re laced. ££ ?

I agree, looks like the way it came out of the casting. Possibly not machined deep enough, but looks fine.

Singles / Quiet Exhaust Project.

I am building a 250 green laner. I have diverted the pipe from the head through the frame. The pipe has a 38 mm O/S diameter. I fitted a small chrome shortie silencer. I might as well have a straight through pipe. Absolutely far too loud for me and anyone else within a mile. Looked on Ebay, mostly cheap straight through rubbish. Can someone on here direct to me to a shortish silencer that works.
Many thanks and keep safe.
