Twins / Test Ride and voltage question
« on: 16 June, 2019, 14:45:59 »
Took my 500 out this weekend, no real issues apart from the carb ( sorted ). Decided to check the voltage running. My Fluke Meter is reading right on 12 volts how ever much  I rev the engine. It is a new Gel Battery. Fitted with one of those square rectifier type things and a Zenner Diode. The lights do not get any better if I rev the engine. I am running a Pazon Mark 8 ignition and the bike is plugged into an Oxford Oximiser 600 most of the week when I get a 13 Volt reading. Have I got a problem with my charging system ? Thanks.

Twins / Metal Bits in the oil !
« on: 09 June, 2019, 15:31:30 »
Rebuilt the primary last year on a project A65. Cases vapour blasted. Fitted complete SRM Clutch Assembly and new primary chain and new oil of course. I might add that the rest of the engine was totally rebuilt. I have just taken the primary cover off to fit a better gasket and noticed very some fine pieces of metal in the outer chain case. I picked up a small amount with a sump magnet. The bike has only done 5 miles since rebuild, is there a logical reason for this please. Thanks.

The Star and Garter / Universal Tachometer Fitting.
« on: 28 May, 2019, 16:37:54 »
Thinking of getting one of these Chinese rev counters. Five wires, live and neutral ( fine so far )  Engine speed signal line ?   Positive pole and negative pole. Total of 5 wires. I have 12 volts pos earth with a Pazon ignition and a standard 12 volt coil. Does anyone know how to wire these up please.

Twins / Voltage at rear light.
« on: 22 May, 2019, 16:35:13 »
My bike is running fine with a Pazon Mark 8 ignition, new gell battery showing 13.5 volts on trickle otherwise 12 volts. Headlight is nice and bright. Just rewired a complete rear loom to the new rear light assembly. Whilst testing my new wires I found that I only have 10 volts with the lights switched on by the ignition switch. My Fluke meter seems fine. Is there a voltage problem please ?

The Star and Garter / Brake Arms which way up ?
« on: 14 May, 2019, 17:30:31 »
As a regular viewer on Ebay I have noticed that some people turn the rear brake arm from down to the up position. I have noticed this mainly on late 650 BSA's and their cousins from Meriden. Is there any advantage refitting this lever upwards ?  :-\

The Star and Garter / Hagon Shocks
« on: 27 April, 2019, 17:52:05 »
Considering getting a pair of these famous shocks, do I tell them what I think I want or rely on their expertise. They have built wheels for me in the past, but their shocks are new to me. I don't carry passengers. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / V5 Special Notes
« on: 26 April, 2019, 17:46:32 »
My 500 was first registered here in UK 1997.
In the special notes section it states " Was registered and/or used. Declared Manufactured 1963". Does this mean it's an import or was stood in a barn with the old docs and number plate lost forever ?
I have an age related plate and matching numbers. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Service Sheets for BSA's
« on: 06 April, 2019, 15:42:06 »
Found a seller on Ebay selling service sheets for BSA's and other vehicles. He lives around the corner and this is the first time I have found him. He / She lives in sheltered accommodation for older people as I know the location. See Ebay number 123705513401. May be of use to someone.

The Star and Garter / Quick MOT questions.
« on: 19 March, 2019, 15:20:42 »
Just rang my MOT booked it in for Thursday this week. He asked me if it was fitted with a reflector ? It is a 250 Honda with the factory fitted rear light has Stanley stamped on it, looks like a reflector to me; so I am assuming he is referring to people who have fitted LED rear lights.
Secondly, I recently had a brand new front Dunlop tyre fitted to my loose wheel. I have only just noticed that the directional arrow on the tyre is facing the wrong way. Quite happy to get it put right but have not got time before the MOT. Will it fail if they notice, thanks.

The Star and Garter / T-Shirt Prices ? Please read.
« on: 08 February, 2019, 15:27:54 »
We have all seen Motorcycle T-Shirts at our supermarket outlets like ASDA etc for under 6, a result. I recently subscribed to another of Morton's Magazines for 6 months and got a free T-Shirt with a picture of my model bike on it, another result. Whilst reading Old Bike Mart Feb 2019, page 13 there is an advert for a T-Shirt to celebrate Fifty years of the Honda 750/4. A bog standard Honda depicted on the T-Shirt for a small price of 25 inc post. Bit surprised at Old Bike Mart owned by Mortons supporting this advert, very expensive I thought, regards Victor Meldrew.
