The Star and Garter / “Daylight MOT”
« on: 06 September, 2017, 16:20:39 »

Having just received my September copy of the Star. I read with interest the article by Richard Stephens regarding his 1960 Spitfire restoration.
He states, despite it going to have a “Daylight MOT” a stoplight  is required by law!

Some time ago I took a bike with no lights “but with a stoplight fitted” for its annual MOT. To be told no lights meant just that! Requiring me to remove the stop lamp for it to pass!

He also states, apparently a “bulb horn” is no longer legally acceptable ?

Do we have any legal eagles out there, to clarify this potential confusion?  Who knows in the event of an insurance claim these details could be relevant!

Twins / Super Rocket ignition timing
« on: 05 September, 2017, 09:05:38 »
I was recently in discussion with a well-known magneto restorer on the subject of Super Rocket ignition timing. He suggest 3/8 or even 7/16 BTDC would be possibly more appropriate with modern fuel, as apposed to the 5/16normally applied by myself.

I would be interested to know your views regarding this subject

Twins / Rich running Super Rocket
« on: 17 August, 2017, 10:09:02 »
I have an Amal 389 fitted to my Super Rocket, set up as per book! However, despite removing the air cleaner and dropping the needle to the first groove, the engine is still running rich!
I would be most grateful if anyone has the cure, before I pull out what’s left of my hair!

Twins / Re: RGS inner primary chain case
« on: 05 August, 2017, 10:18:06 »
Having owned and ridden a Gold Star fitted with Super Rocket engine for almost 40 years. During that time, having lost count of the times I have had to explain, this is not in fact Rocket Gold Star!

Then attempting to point out the difference between a genuine RGS and my GSR! Consequently, the question of what is the correct type of inner primary case as arisen at times, hence my enquiry on this forum.

I totally agree with you “If the owner is happy with his bike does it actually matter?”

But obviously to some it does!  Particularly with so many so called replicas in circulation.

Twins / RGS inner primary chain case
« on: 04 August, 2017, 16:51:34 »
As far as I am aware, despite the many RGS options offered by the factory, a fully enclosed final drive chain case was not one of them!

Therefore, why would the short inner primary chain case 42-7515 with the drilled boss to accommodate such a case be fitted, as seen on some RGS labelled machines, apposed to the longer type with the un-drilled boss 42-7505?

Twins / Fitting of M20/21 girder forks to a late A10 frame
« on: 02 August, 2017, 16:45:48 »
Is possible to fit M20 girder forks to a late A10 frame? If the answer is yes!

Does anyone have any experience of carrying out this unlikely mating. If so, what if any, modifications are required to either.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to this? “Don‘t ask”
