The Star and Garter / A65 - first registration help...
« on: 09 December, 2017, 13:36:34 »
Hi All,
Has anyone had experience of the following and found a solution?

I have completed a A65 with a 1968 engine and 1966 frame. I have a dating certificate and vehicle report informing me they were both exported to the USA on 7.11.1968 and 10.6.1966 respectively. I bought engine cases only and a bare frame from Ebay about 8 years ago at different times from sellers in the UK, collecting and buying the necessary parts to complete a full bike.

I have contacted HM revenue and customs (HMRC) for the documentation required to apply for a registration with the DVLA. HMRC will not issue the document until I forward:

1. C88/E2 import entry document
2. bill of sale, purchase invoice or a valuation from a local garage
3. Evidence if VAT has been paid.

Item 1 will be impossible to obtain, a valuation of the frame and engine casings should be okay and VAT paid will never be discovered.

Any advice or help would be welcomed.

Best wishes...

Twins / A65 - 3 ball clutch operating mechanism
« on: 21 November, 2017, 10:36:10 »
Has anyone experienced a clicking issue with the 3 ball clutch operating mechanism.

I have one where the balls move with the plates and full back into the depressions with a loud clicking sound. I have tried lubing with oil only and grease only without effect. I guess the plates are worn so I'm thinking of changing the balls from 3/8" to 10mm to see if that works.

Any ideas gratefully welcomed..

Twins / A50/65 - Rear Brake Light Switch
« on: 11 August, 2017, 10:36:26 »
I've just fitted a new rear brake light switch:-

It sits in an off position, as the brake is applied it moves to an on position then as the brake is applied further it moves to an off position. As they say in electrical circles off/on/off.

My problem is that I cant set the actuators on the pedal to keep the light on when the brake is fully depressed.

Does anyone know if this is the normal action of the original brake light switch? The suppliers are saying it is...

Hi All,
Here it is my new ride, started it up today for the first time.

I made it from spares I collected over the years for my other bike. I needed room in the garage, and a complete bike takes up less room  :).

Its been an enjoyable project as I haven't had to spend sheds of money to keep it original. Hopefully I will be riding it across Dartmoor next spring.

Now for the MOT, dating and DVLA  :'( :'( :'(

Twins / Re: A65 air filters
« on: 21 April, 2017, 10:03:46 »
Hi All,
Has anyone had experience of these air filters:

I'm considering using them on a Lightning and Thunderbolt, the bikes will have side covers and generally standard around the filter area. Is there any issues I should be aware of?
