Twins / Re: Clutch Issue after engine rebuild. A65 3 Spring

Hi,
I've never done it that way. I guess there's no reason why not just the restriction of the engine casing stopping a good stroke of the file. The obvious issue of ensuring all the filings are removed from the primary.

The Star and Garter / Re: oil feed/return O rings
« on: 12 June, 2018, 15:26:33 »
Hi,
No, 3 branch is o ring is part number 68-0588, 1966 is 68-0598.

The 3 branch is recommended as a upgrade in the BSA service sheets, I've always heeded the recommendation and fitted the 3 branch as it improves the oil feed to the head.

Best wishes...

Hi,
I purchased 134 rings for £19.24 delivered. It worked out about 20 sets for the A65/A50.

Rev counter drive
Oil manifold
PRV
Oil tank drain plug
Oil pump
Gearbox drain plug

You will need BS010 (equ 6.1X1.6mm), BS014, BS020, BS016 AND BS008

Cheaper than buying individually via a BSA parts supplier.

« on: 10 June, 2018, 14:54:40 »
Hi,
I have a number of items to chrome, I have googled but the reviews aren't good. Can anyone recommend a reliable company, preferably in the west-country.

Thanks...

Twins / Re: A 65 Rebores and re-sleeves
« on: 08 June, 2018, 19:04:48 »
Hi,
I bought my A10 lipped liners from here:

https://www.westwoodcylinderliners.co.uk/products/browse-by-application/

They didn't have lipped in stock but expertly found a very close equivalent for £42 each. It maybe worth Emailing them with your requirement.

My A65 cylinder has a crack in the lower skirt. I bought some crack detector and developer to expose the extent of the crack, drilled a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it migrating and am using it.

Best wishes...

Hi,
    They are:

Part No. 68-0588   6mm x 10mm   or  1/4" x 3/8" or BS010

The best you can buy for this application will be FKM (FPM, viton/fluorel).

I got mine from:

Eastern Seals (UK) Ltd
Unit 3 Sovereign Business Park
Jubilee Industrial Estate
Ashington,
Northumberland, NE63 8UG, UK

The Star and Garter / Re: Vehicle registration

Hi AWJD,
I didn't insure my bike and got the registration, as soon as the registration arrived I SORN'ed it until I was ready to use it. The BSAOC advice I used, contained in the link below, does not include the need to insure the bike:

https://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/agerelatedplatenotes.html

states:

How to obtain an age related registration mark.
For refurbished machines:
Documents to send to the DVLA

The machine has to be refurbished and ready to use before you can obtain an age related registration. Please note the DVLA will require the originals of the following certificates not photocopies

Original of the BSAOC Vehicle Report from the Club. Based on the photographic evidence supplied or from a physical inspection.

MoT Certificate, for post 1960 machines using the frame number as reference, or a form V112 MoT exemption form if pre 1960 (recent change here).

V55/5 application form using the Clubs notes. Also note that the V55/5 is a carbonless copy (now carbon) so ensure that the front page is transferred to the back page.

You will need to include photocopy confirmation of your name and address using both parts of the photo card driving licence or 2 forms of identity. Documents you can use to confirm your name include:

current paper driving licence, Passport, marriage certificate, decree nisi or absolute, birth certificate

Documents you can use to confirm your address include:
recent utility bill (within the last 3 months) – eg gas, electricity, water, landline phone bill, recent bank or building society statement (within the last 3 months), medical card, council tax bill for current year

First registration fee currently £55

HMRC NOVA acknowledgement letter, if the vehicle has been imported then it is subject to NOVA. You will need to fill in a paper NOVA1 form. You can get a copy of this form by phoning HMRC’s VAT helpline on 0300 200 3700 (open Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 6.00 pm - closed weekends and bank holidays). Please note: HMRC will accept a partially completed NOVA1 notification form by the current owner of the vehicle. Accompanied with the NOVA1 should be a letter of explanation and any information regarding the history of the vehicle. These may be invoices showing purchase in the UK, invoices for parts etc., which will provide an audit of the vehicles history. HMRC accept that documentary evidence will be different for different projects, i.e. some vehicles will be barn finds, others restoration projects, however the aim is not to cause distress but to ensure that HMRC are aware of the vehicle and that you are able to achieve a UK vehicle registration with the DVLA so the vehicle can be legally used on UK Roads.

Maybe I got lucky, I have another in the pipeline and will let you know the outcome.

Best wishes...

Hi Mike,
I guess not, my successful application this year before the MoT changes for a 1966 A65 contained the following:

•   V55/5 application form
•   Original BSAOC Vehicle Report Certificate
•   MoT Test Certificate
•   Photocopy confirmation of my name and address using both parts of my photo card driving licence
•   HMRC NOVA acknowledgement letter (the frame came from the USA)
•   Images shown LHS, RHS, frame number and engine number of the motorcycle (I didn't have a vehicle inspection)
•   Cheque £55, for the first registration fee.

I received the registration in less than 2 weeks, it is a nice selection of numbers and letters  :) :)

Last weeks application for my sons 1966 A65, after the MoT change contains (I'll let you know how he gets on):

•   V55/5 application form
•   Original BSAOC Vehicle Report Certificate
•   V112 MoT exemption form
•   Photocopy confirmation of his name and address using both parts of his photo card driving licence
•   HMRC NOVA acknowledgement letter (another frame came from the USA)
•   Images shown LHS, RHS, frame number and engine number of the motorcycle
•   Cheque £55, for the first registration fee

Best wishes...
