Hi Julian 8)

At the risk of boring everyone else rigid I still don't know which cylinder head I've got. The casting no does not appear to be recognised by any of the "dealers". So what alterations were made and when. All I know is that at some stage the Valves were changed. That infers that the seats were also changed.

Do you reckon that I can check this out simply by measuring the seat diameter or what else might you suggest.

What were the valve changes and was the head casting actually changed in any way.

Your help and advice appreciated.

I certainly would not suggest borrowing but: -

If A50 wheels fit you can borrow mine for a short time. Where are you.

Write to CEO DVLA, Your local MP and the minister for transport. Hassle them hassle them. It probably wont work but if enough of us do it maybe, just maybe, someone will start to listen. Ha bloody ha.. ::)

In this time with the super computerised systems, as long as everything on the V5 is properly entered, by them, there is absolutely no need or reason for "Q" plates. When I put this to them the answer was Quote "Its not as simple as that" Red rag to a bull. That phrase means ---OK, you have a good point but I really cant be bothered to get off my donkey and do anything about it.  We are AGENCY--we are next to INFALLIBLE

There really should be an ombudsman (or is there one already) to deal with this type of thing. I will look into this aspect and come back.

My cylinder head is stamped 68-72. I have been through all my bits and trawled the BSAOC archive but cant find that No. So what have I got.

Must admit that I would like to get this as right as possible, so that I can buy the correct valves etc. Are the valves A65 interchangeable. Must confess that previously I would have just bought A65 Valves because I wasn't aware they differed.

So despite the haggard looks I am still young enough to learn????????????

Thanks for your input, now I understand more fully. Further question,-- As I have no idea what year my cylinder head is from, are the lower valve collars interchangeable. And are there any others that might fit. I know that I can buy new ones but I wish to avoid that wherever possibly for such simple parts.

Go a step further--are the different valve collars interchangeable??Not that I know what year my cylinder head is.

Good morning. I am rebuilding an A65 engine to Thunderbolt spec. I have a camshaft No 68-0473 which I am lead to believe is high lift???. Out of a Spitfire or something of that ilk.(According to Draganfly,-----I don't know) If I remember rightly the correct one is 67-356??

I know the dear old Thunderbolt with standard pistons etc doesn't need that amount of breath, so what will be the probable effect if I use it
I suspect very little but I would be interested in your thoughts.

Heres a quickie. If I have a daylight only MOT does it mean that I cant ride it on rainy or overcast or any other days with some limiting visibility, when the law requires "dipped headlights"

Hi.

I have purchased an A65 Cylinder Head minus the inlet manifold and my thoughts are that the A50 and A65 are probably different

I am confused about this because although the A50 carb bores are different I cant find a definitive answer about the manifolds.
In one book they appear to be the same, another book says they are different and a further book doesn't even mention them.

So any light on this one would really be appreciated. I would also like to hear from any one who has one or has a cream crackered head they might part with

HI I found the method that suits me is as mentioned just a piece of cord and a strong pull. I also offer up a prayer in which most words appear to begin with "F"
