Viva Patina! I would agree: It would be great if you could get it running, relialble and safe without loosing its character. Let the old girl show her age!
There's plently of spares availabe for the M20 and advice both here and on the wm20 forum.

My first bike was an M20 that I had in the early 70s and I've just finished rebuilding my second. A nice easy machine to work on.
Please keep us informed of you progress.

Rotate the points plate so that the pillars are in the centre of their slots. Loosen points cam (centre screw) and rotate the cam to set timng. If you then need to tweek the timing you use the small adjstment provided by the slots in thepoints plate.

You've found yourself a nice practical bike there. I have had a couple over the yaers and found them very useabe machines. I must admit that when I restored the second one I had a transfer of a hand-grenade made for the pertol tank. People used to warn of these engines blowing up but if they did it has to be remembered that they were popular with young learner riders and got their nuts thrashed off them!

Feel free to ask any questions as they arise. They are a very helpful bunch on here.

Congratulations Thumper! You have more persistance than me. I could find the energy to do battle with the DVLA when I was trying to get my V5 corrected.
Please think of me as I now embark on the process of getting a V5 for my latest BSA after loads of time and money spent on  refurbishing it  ::)

You don't need to take the whole engine out. You should get access by removing the prmary drive and rear chaincase. A bit of a drag I'm afraid. Do you really need to turn them round?

Its not that difficult to make your own harness. Apart from any money savings it means you can get the cable runs and connectors you want. I did decide to try using a ready made harness on my latest project last week but I soon ended up thowing it to one side and going to the electrical supplier to get the components to make my own again.

If you've got a mig welder you could try welding a bar to the end of the cotter pin to give yourself some purchase.

Can't give you a direct answer without going up to the shed and taking mine off and its dark and wet out there now. I'll look tomorrow if you've not got an answer by then. In the meantime Draganfly will sell you a complete cable for around 15 and are usually pretty  helpful if you give them a call
