Mike, the lomng tube is the return and it is around this that the felt filter fits. Some on the WM20 forum say they don't bother with this but I have one fitted. The filters are easy to come by but the caps that sit on top of them are less so. I made my own cap.
Help and loads of technical data is available on the BSA WM20 site.

Many thanks to the West Yorkshire crew that organised the Camp. A lovely site with very good faciliites. The run out was a wonderful scenic run through some lovely countryside and the cafe and pub stops were spot on. Indeed  the run was so good we came back with more riders than we set out with!

Well, I reckon I am just about recovered enough and as the bike rack is still on the campervan I suppose we'll be heading there come Friday  :)

Lightweights / Re: Dandy spares

In case you did not know there are two styles of saddle for the Dandy, reflecting the different designs of petrol tank they sit on top of. I had the wrong one on mine which worked but the support springs did not sit in the tank where they should.

Bantam / Re: She's running sweet, now she'll smell sweet.

Yes, I do put Castrol R in the fourstrokes. Nice smell for those old timers following behind and hopefully does a bit of upper cylinder lubrication as you can't get  'a shot of Redex' at the filling station these days.

Bantam / She's running sweet, now she'll smell sweet.

I was in a modern scooter shop yesterday on other matters when I noticed their Putoline synthetic 2T oil was well priced so I bought a couple of bottles as I was running low anyway. The bonus was that the strawberry scented stuff was the same price as the non-scented. I'd been thinking for some time of trying the scented stuff in the Raleigh moped I use around the village. If they have to tolerate my trail of smoke it might as well smell nice.
I don't know whether it will actually smell any better to the villagers or how the Bantam will get on with it but, if I remember, I'll let you know in due course. ( I still have a litre of fuel in the Raliegh so it might be a while yet  ;D)

Have any of you used this oil?

The Star and Garter / Just got back...
« on: 28 May, 2018, 18:12:33 »
...from this year's National Rally and Open Day.
we had a great weekend meeting up with feoow BSAers from around the Uk.
Good food, great band, very enjoyable  ride out and a wonderful selection of BSA bikes and cars for the line up.
Just sorry I bottled the silly games but threats of electric shocks lead to me bottling it.

Well done and grateful thanks from me an Lizzy to all those who put in the graft to make this event happen.

Sidecars / Re: Tapers in fittings
« on: 14 May, 2018, 18:31:57 »
There is an article in this month's Star about sidecar fitting. The author has offered to help anyone having problems. It might be worth getting in touch with him directly.

I used the cling film approach with duct tape over the filler hole and tap hole bungs made with bolts wrpped with insulation tape.
You shuold not need to shake the tank with the stripper in: the solution and its fumes will get off the old sealant.
You probably won't have to worry abotu pouring out the used sealant as there might not be any left.....I found it evaporated as fast as anythig. Hence the need to do this outdoors..you don't want to be breathing those fumes.

Sorry Tony but I've never worked on these oilers so I can't comment.
Perhaps you could contact Jules Dassen who is the Club's pre-war technical consultant. His deatisl are in the Star
