is the gearing standard?
are both exhaust pipes as hot as each other and one cylinder not dropping out?
is the carb needle in the right possition as per manual?
and a thousand other possibilites.

hi andy.
your first purchase needs to be the fork puller tool. an adjuster screws into the top stantion thread and you can tap out the fork and pull it up with this tool. when off the bike if the fork isnt moving but sticking  your next purchase needs to be the chrome oil seal holder removal tool. a spare bottom yoke is handy as you can hold the fork tight via the yoke in a vice when working on the fork. good luck.

many moons ago i got stuck in traffic on the a1 on my trident t160 during a rainstorm. with electronic ignition and headlights and indicators it took about 3,000 rpm and plenty of popping and banging to get through that traffic. never again.  i decided to fit the mistral 3 phase. i converted to negative earth battery connection, used a suzy gs750 wiring loom , switch gear and a kawa gs500 regulator. i know i upset the purists but brought the bike up to modern standards for heavy traffic. the only problem is working out ways to mount a larger battery and regulator. i also prefer the jap bullets to lucas ones .
however if you keep the points system i don t think 3 phase would be necessary and points can be very reliable when well maintained. the boyer requires a lot more juice and i dont think the older alternator is adequate with lights and indicators and traffic.

the engine also runs a lot better without that standard air filter altogether. i gave up with the over rich mixture, fitted a guaze bellmouth and hey -ho, away we go.

sorry mike, i dont think flushing oil would be a good idea as the sludge trap is designed to collect debris and if that was disturbed the next port of call would be the big end journals. every sludge trap i ve had apart has always had something in it and the biggest threat is non use when the oil turns solid and powdery but personally i would chance that a previous owners already cleaned it out and use the bike. i am sure its been cleaned out sometime between now and 1962 .at least use it for this summer if it arrives.

hi, a larger main jet may be needed at top end. if you have choke control apply flat out and feel what happens. you could raise the gearbox sprocket size and alter gearing but the engine will suffer getting up to top speed and you will hate slowing down for rounderbouts etc.
