Sidecars / Re: A65 Fitting?
« on: 13 November, 2018, 15:57:57 »
Can I be a pain? If so, could I ask if you could post some more pics of how the chair is attached to frame. There was a box of fittings that came with the sidecar and the ones left on it from it’s Square Four pairing.

Thanks
Kevin.

Sidecars / A65 Fitting?
« on: 21 May, 2018, 20:02:35 »
Hi there, thanks for looking.

I have been lucky enough to acquire a Watsonian Palmer Chair so the little fella can come out for a blast with his dad.

I intend to fit the chair to my early A65. The chair was previously fitted to a Square Four and has come with a box of brackets. Does anyone have a diagram or pictures of how one would fit to an A65.

All thoughts welcomed.

Kevin

Save it and send. You lower the quality when it is sent originally.

It’s a faff! Can see why social media as a platform has a huge draw.

I’m all apple, and just get by.

What I do is: email myself the picture, that lowers the quality. Hey presto, low enough for a forum.

Do they work with a twin output coil?

Is that a problem?

I have got the rest of the bottom end stripped today. I took it to a good friends, but not a BSA A65 expert for inspection.

The bores seem ok, maybe on the tight side. A going over with the oil stones should put it right. All the bushes are good.

The crank has had an Devimeade/srm conversation. Bearings are good. The crank is still smooth and when we measured the crank it was still perfectly round. +10 shells made or rhubarb.

The connection rods: one has two holes drilled and one without. Is this correct?

Con rods.

My one on my Dommie is fitted between the centre stand and back wheel.

It is a tight fit, but might be worth investigating whether it would work on an A65.

I know it’s a different bike, but it might be worth a try. Will take some pics in the morn if you like?

I’m putting one on my A65 when it’s sorted!

I work away from home. I will be back home tomorrow night and taking the bottom end out of the bike on Saturday morning. Will measure it for you then!

Hope this is ok?

They do exist!

Some people don’t realise this was a set up!

If you would like some measurements, I will be stripping the frame for blasting and repainting in the not so distant future. Well, when the engine had been decided on!

Are these any good?

Better quality on request. Be quick though, bike coming to bits soon.

it’s the Hepolite stuff in yellow boxes that is to be avoided, by all accounts. You can still get UK Hepolite rings which are good and a totally different thing confused by the same name.

Hi there and thanks for you responses.

Star Twin, don’t sell your Velocette, everyone should have one!

I sent an email to SRM with the above pictures to see if what I had was scrap and unworthy of getting reworked, and should I seek better second hand to get reworked?

This was Geoff Dewhurst’s response:

 Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your enquiry, the strap across the crankcases does not scrap them and is often seen broken from a rod breakage or just brutal treatment, one thing I have noticed is the two drillings above the idler gear and the crank pinion, these are not standard and is something that is done during the needle roller conversion there is also a Job no of what looks like F54 so maybe it has been converted by a company called Devimead before 1987, as we bought them out at this time but do not have their records. You can check by looking to see if a block of alloy has been welded to the inner timing cover below where the points would sit, if so this is the oilway to feed down the end of the crankshaft.
The cylinders should not be a problem to repair, and to fit liners to take it back to standard bore size.
Hope this is good news.
Regards Geoff

I am very happy with this. I know he’s only going off pictures, but I am sure he has seen some right basket cases.

I hope the bottom end isn’t too terrible when I take it to bits at the weekend!

Kevin
