« on: 30 September, 2020, 23:48:32 »
Blimey.........apologies if I have hit a nerve and I'm sorry if my suggestion comes across as aggressive - its only a suggestion.

I have not got a problem with the current membership system and I think the Committee do a sterling job, I just think there is room for improvement, especially regarding new membership and the younger generation (this is where the clubs future lies - no new members, no BSAOC, do we just watch it die like the factory?).
Most club's now operate an 'immediate' membership at the touch of a button, so why not us; it could easily run alongside the 'old' system and reduce the amount of manual work the Membership Secretary has to do, as all details would be physically typed by the applicant and automatically loaded into the membership database.
I have already stated that I have dropped the idea of online sales for non members (regalia & transfers etc) as I these should be for members only, I was just showing the possibilities of having the option of an ONLINE PAYMENT SYSTEM - this could still be available for members. (I'm not looking for excessive retail sales just members convenience).
And just for the record, I was involved with the setting up of the current website and always happy to assist in future development.

Anyway I have since been informed by a committee member that this topic is in hand and being discussed - This post might as well be closed.

All Committee Members are aware of this post ..................can you all please answer YES/NO if this issue is worth pursuing - I would also appreciate some response from any interested parties.
I am looking to improve the website and make Membership a more attractive proposition to the younger generation.
I will remind all Committee Members of this post (again) and expect a positive response

After reading 'The Membership Secretary and Webmaster Report' in the September Star, the final paragraph stated that he/she:
'would be interested in members suggestions  (and feedback) about the websites 'look & content''.
I have simply raised an idea to improve the website.
I raised this post in the forum to give the idea some impotence. This subject has been raised before (Members Meetings etc) without any success. I didn't raise it at the AGM as history tells me the subject would eventually get ignored; and now you are suggesting I wait another year to raise the subject at the next AGM and then wait another year for it to disappear (2 yrs ) - not a great system in this dynamic day and age.
Maybe we should just get a consensus as whether it is a good idea or not - a straight YES/NO poll should surely do the trick.

F.A.O. the webmaster.

When is the website going to accept 'ONLINE PAYMENTS' especially for membership renewals? - the current system is antiquated - it might suite the 'oldies', but to be honest they are not the future of the BSAOC.
Should a 'youngster' wish to join, strike while the iron is hot.
Why not have a 'JOIN & PAY NOW' button, rather than the current system i.e.
1) 'DOWNLOAD' a form
2) Fill the form in
3) Put the completed form in an envelope
4) Address the envelope
5) Put a stamp on the envelope
6) Post it off, etc etc etc - far too long winded - youngsters just ain't that patient anymore.

On that note..... now Transfers are on the website, why not have another 'PAY NOW' button, rather than another long winded affair to purchase. Should this be open to everyone? (not just members), again this could be sourced by online payments.
The next thing online should be regalia, and again open to all, (not just members) if its got BSAOC on it, it is promoting the club (for free!). - price it accordingly if they are not members.....(membership number could easily determine the price).

PAYPAL is readily available, a secure and trusted method of online transactions.

Twins / a65 oil pressure
« on: 06 January, 2018, 10:47:47 »
A friend has just fitted an Oil Pressure Gauge to his 1972 A65 Lightning - he has concerns that its reading 90 psi - and funny enough has developed an oil leak (surprise surprise) - what i have read is the oil pressure when warm, at 3000 - 4000 rpm should be around 40-45 psi - can someone explain this ridiculous reading for me? (the release valve has 70 psi stamped on it, its normally 50 i beleive)

Twins / Re: A65 - Ace Bars - cable lengths
« on: 09 June, 2017, 15:41:34 »
Many Thanks - I thoroughly recommend J J Cables - a very helpful guy - I was thinking about making all my cables myself, but after talking to the guy it just wasn't worth my time.
All cables ordered with confidence - thanks Ray T.

Thanks Julian, as I said I have measured them and quite confident of the lengths, I was just looking for re-assurance in case I have made a 'school boy' error with the routing etc.
I will probably get in touch with the 'cable guys' who attend Kempton Auto Jumble and ask there advice prior to ordering.
(anyone got a the phone number for the Cable Guys who attend Kempton AutoJumble?)
Again thanks Ray T

Twins / A65 - Ace Bars - cable lengths
« on: 05 June, 2017, 19:14:46 »
1966 A65 Lightning.
I’m fitting Ace Bars to a 1966 A65 Lightning.
I have early Amal 930 carbs with a twin cable twist throttle (no splitter, 2 cables required).
The clutch is early side entry to the clutch operating lever
The Choke operating lever is single cable, requiring a splitter for the other carb.
The Front brake is a full width hub (I know its the wrong one!).
Can someone please tell me the outer cable lengths for the following:
1)   The Throttle cable(s)
2)   The Choke cable (including the splitter box)
3)   The Clutch cable
4)   The Front Brake cable
I have measured the ‘cable runs’ but I would like confirmation/reassurance prior to ordering
Many thanks - Ray T.

Twins / Re: A65 6v - 12v Alternator
« on: 20 May, 2017, 21:04:31 »
I must admit this diagram is much simpler and easier to follow, my only problem is I have bought a new 1966 wiring diagram so really need to stick to original diagram as much as possible, but for clarity & understanding I can use this - many thanks - I also agree about 'forgeting the rectifier lead to light switch' as 'all'  output from the Alt. will be going straight to the new Reg/Rec box.- ray t

I now have another concern.....................please see attachment.
My concern is the output from the Alt. will be A.C. to the Rec. - from the left hand post of the REC., a wire pegs off and goes to 'post' no. 7 on the lighting switch, surely this 'current' will still be A.C.?
Anyone have an explanation ? - ray t
