Singles / Re: 1969 B25S chrome mudguards

When restoring my 1968 B44, I looked for Triumph TR25W and BSA WD B40 mudguards as they are very similar due to frames being basically the same. So my front guard is from a TR25W from where I removed the paint before having it chromed. The rear guard was sold to me as being for a WD B40, again painted so I did same before chroming. HTH

I agree with Derek that the transfer was 'Minimum Oil Level' for rigid and plunger models which was placed roughly between a third to a half way below top of tank. In addition, if you need to fit a BSA Garter transfer on the toolbox, this was 'BSA Cycles Ltd' up to 1953 then 'BSA Motorcycles Ltd' from 1953.

Singles / Re: BSA M21 Sparkplug

From the plugs mentioned, you have an Alloy Head on yours? AFAIK, the Champion N8 was phased out and was replaced by the N5C which has an NGK equivalent of B6ES, so the NGK you have 'should' be ok. Be aware though, that on some plugs the electrode is very near the inlet valve which may hit it and close the gap! Don't ask how I know, but I just fitted an extra copper washer under the other spark plug washer to space it up a bit.

I believe I suggested buying a length of 1/4" OD silver steel rod and making your own in April. It's not difficult to make one, and I would imagine much cheaper than buying from a dealer who may not have had the ends correctly heat treated. There's a link below to a 13" long rod for £6.64 inc. delivery.

Singles / Re: Clutch Push Rod - B31 Plunger 1949

If your gearbox and clutch are as the bike left the Factory, the pushrod length should be 11 7/8" (or 11.875 or 301.6mm). The best material for pushrods is silversteel rod, so cut it to the length required then slightly chamfer each end before hardening each end by heating to cherry red then dunking in water with the rod straight down (not angled)  and stirring around. Some people say you should then temper the ends afterwards, but I've never bothered and had no issues.

Singles / Re: C15 side stand

According to the records I have access to Dave, the C15 and B40 centre stands were the same part number (40-4729). Perhaps the one you have is from a trials version? Further to this the centre stands were different part numbers, so I assume this to be taking into account the different wheel diameters of the two models.

Singles / Re: How not to B33!

As others have stated Dan, you're better to have some piston slap when cold than to have the clearance too tight, so it is up to you what to use.

Quote from: iansoady on 11 April, 2025, 09:55:25That's about .004" which I would say is on the tight side for a B33.

I agree.. BSA Service Sheet 701 states 0.0045 to 0.0065" for the B33 plus 0.010" for ring gaps.

Quote from: DAVE BRADY on 01 April, 2025, 09:45:36Was the C15G ever used for military or Home Office service.  Perhaps as green frame?

B40 for definite Dave, but perhaps someone with more knowledge could add to this?

As far as the information I have to hand states, the C15G model had a black frame and forks and swinging arm. Colours available for Tank, sidepanels, and mudguards was Royal Red or Sapphire (aka Nutley?) Blue. Brake hubs and cover plates were silver sheen with cover plate outer edge polished. Optional for the petrol tank was chromed sides. HTH

If you let me know what areas you need to know for routing etc, I'll drag the Victor out of it's 'naughty corner' in the garage and take some more pics. The fuel pipes were original I believe, but I did replace the flexible parts with new after I took the photos posted earlier.

Hello.. I can help regarding the Engine breather from primary case. The pipe is routed between the top of the air filter case and tool tray. It seems to be partially trapped in that location, but it can be the only logical route for where the clip on the rear mudguard is attached. Pics are from my 1972 Victor when I had just bought it (one owner bike). HTH

Pre War / Re: BSA 500 maybe S24 S26 , H25 ?

A picture would help, but to take this further you could try contacting the Lancashire Record Office, Bow Lane, Preston, PR1 2RE. (01772 533039) as they hold some but not all records for Blackpool (FR prefix) registered vehicles. HTH

AFAIK they didn't have backing rubbers. I didn't fit any to my B44 with steel tank and I've not experienced any issues. HTH
