Which BSA do you ride? / C12T
« on: 29 October, 2020, 08:18:02 »
Occasionally ride a C12 converted to trials, interesring old thing that is not a winning bike but great fun and lovely on green lanes.... Also have a Gollner Bantam , but thats for serious competitions and as age has caught-up will be sponsoring my son to ride it in serious trials. On the trials theme I also have the Earls Court show bike from 1962 and frame C15C 101, That's also ridden occasionally in 'dead easy' trials and for riding to do observing duties in National events. SSDT etc.   Griff

The Star and Garter / TLS....
« on: 24 October, 2020, 19:53:52 »
Just fitted a TLS 7" brake system to my B40. It has transformed the braking system and made the bike far safer in modern traffic. Makes the old 7" brakes seem as effective as a hankey on four pieces of string... A new carb and it's like riding something new.. I'm a happy rider and just enjoyed a 130 mile ride out with a couple of chums. No brake fade in the Peak District.....  Griff

The Star and Garter / B25 TLS hub ?
« on: 18 October, 2020, 21:59:55 »
I have obtained a 7" TLS hub and wheel complete, without shoes. Bought new 7" TLS brake shoes and fitted them but alas the re-build will nnot fit into the hub, by a long way. When putting just the shoes into the hub they fit perfectly, nice and circular and a 17mm gapeither side. When fitted to the plate the gap goes to 32mm ?  Yes the arms are let off and the right direction... Are there 2  types of shoes used on these brakes ? Oh yes the face on the shoes do not fit flush to the 'blind side'.. It seems to taper off...  Just a bit miffed now as tried a second set of shoes and just the same...   Help !!!!!!!!!!!   .... The Star and Garter / Annual Dinner...
« on: 29 September, 2020, 19:12:40 »
Thinking about the new restrictions and the dreaded virus, I think that the event this year should be postponed if not cancelled. Legally we cannot have more than 30 at an event (maybe less with the new regs) and pods of 6 that can't intermingle will make it a bit of a damp squib. After all the 'dads dancing' team with their antics will be a no no.. Then there is the tip toe across the landing events that are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Whats the general feeling of folk on here ?    Griff

The Star and Garter / B40 Red
« on: 28 August, 2020, 18:43:56 »
I was just wondering if any of you knowledgeable chaps knew the correct code and shade of red for a '62 B40.. Just want to tidy the old beast up a touch...   Griff

Singles / C15T Gearing...
« on: 04 April, 2020, 17:38:06 »
My trials bike has been doctored to make it even lower geared than standard. so low you can ride rocky sections in 3rd gear and go at walking pace. As the trials I like to do involve road work 20 to 25 mph is a bit of a waste of time. Question is what number tooth sprocket was on the original gearbox drive and on the engine pulley ?  The idea is to gear it up more for green lanes and long distance tirals...   Thanks..   Griff

The Star and Garter / Overalls for little blokes....
« on: 27 March, 2020, 19:01:15 »
I've been given a brand new boiler suit for a small chap. I would think a waist of 32" and a height of up to 5'6". So if there any reasonable sized men out there they can have them for the cost of postage. Not very often things come-up for smaller people as most shops only like to have stuff in for bloomin giants...   Griff

The Star and Garter / Table Top Dancng...
« on: 23 September, 2019, 21:25:40 »
It is rumoured that one of our 'top table' members offered to do a table top dance for a group of Nort Estern Women on a hen party. Sadly they declined his offer as the consumption of alcohol was inadequate for them to enjoy the spectacle. Sadly he sat down again and resumed the consumption of yet another glass of ginger ale. We were all relived as it might have lifted the club's value as  'hen party' entertainment... Could Stafford Show be the next venue of such exploits... To coin the phrase..."It's easy"...... So we kept telling him...    :o   Griff

Twins / Rubber grommet....
« on: 16 September, 2019, 19:31:40 »
Is the rubber grommet the same for the early chaincases as the one that fits into the tank fixing centre ?  Looks about the same but was just checking ... Thanks,   Griff

Which BSA do you ride? / What to ride ?
« on: 08 September, 2019, 13:09:55 »
Going out for a ride today and the choice is hard.. Is it the '39 C10 , '46 C11, '57 C12, C15T (frame 101), Gollner Bantam, D13 or '62 A50 ? Ended up on a '56  B33 , such hard times with difficult decisions...    Griff

The Star and Garter / Manx GP..
« on: 07 August, 2019, 08:59:08 »
Yes that time of year comes again. Are any of you lads going this year and if so does anybody fancy having a pint at some time...?  It could be a 'multi branch meet'...  Then again !    Griff

The Star and Garter / Castrol Power 1 2t oil.
« on: 07 August, 2019, 08:55:55 »
Have been given some 2t oil for my Bantam. As it is only part synthetic what strength would you chaps recomend. Running on fully synthetic I use a 40/1 ratio. Do I ignore the semi-synthetic or use at a rate ??????  Thanks..  Griff

The Star and Garter / C15 frame ?
« on: 09 July, 2019, 09:21:52 »
Just checking my C15 (bought as pieces) and looking at the frame number it's C15S 3612.. Am I right in thinking this might be a trials frame. It's done as a green laner at present but I'd like to make a trials bike from it . Making it look as was original.. Think the engine number is C15 40088 and wll have to put a trials cluster in the box.......  Griff
