Singles / B40 clutch
« on: 16 June, 2018, 09:28:06 »
Route for a B40 clutch cable ? Whilst having the bike up in the air I think the clutch cable should be changed (cracks in the outer cover) What is the best route to run the cable as at present it goes between the main chain. I think it should run behind the chain and clutch so as to be less chance of damage...  Is that the normal route.... Oh yes it's a B40T..   Griff

Singles / B40T swinging arm bushes...
« on: 21 May, 2018, 15:00:42 »
I have to change the bushes in my B40 swinging arm. Quite a bit of movement laterally so it must be done to use on roads between sections, Having never tackled this before is there any easy way to do this job ? Yes I have no doubt parentage, stress and big hammers come into a job last done 57 years ago.. All tips heeded unless a trapped finger is involved.. Thanks   ::)   Griff

« on: 23 April, 2018, 12:21:23 »
We had a winner at the show. Roy Clark with his A7SS and Watsonian chair won the best sidecar in the show. A lovely bike that was grwatly admired. Gave the team present quite a boost. Well done Roy for all your work....   Griff

« on: 12 April, 2018, 19:56:59 »
What is the recomended plug for a C12 ?  Got a short reach one in at present , but that is only to keep the crap out when the barrel was sprayed and re-build completed.   griff

Singles / Gold Star rev counter.
« on: 08 April, 2018, 22:27:03 »
Smiths rev counter went dodgy on a run this afternoon. Any recomendations for repair ?  Problem is it shoots over to over 8k revs on tick-over and slowly drops back to 2k revs. Stays there for a mile or two, works OK for 1/2 mile then trotts off to +8k....  Bit beyond my abilities to furtle with it....   :-\   Griff

Singles / B31 valve lifter
« on: 04 March, 2018, 19:22:18 »
The cable is too long on my valve lifter. Is it possible to move the arm , thus shortening the cable ? If so how does the arm come off the rocker as after removing the nut nothing look obvious and the Haynes manual does not menton this part. New cable perhaps ?  .. Thanks... Griff

The Star and Garter / More on tanks
« on: 02 November, 2017, 08:15:50 »
Took my A65 tank to a local paint shop(thet specialise in classic car paintwork RR etc) to have it painted. There was a dent in it , out of obvious sight . The lads at 'Splash of Paint' removed the dent and painted the tank to perfection. In fact at a local show there was an award fot the best restored paintwork and yes got it . Total job 175 and yes taking the B31 tank there for a splash of paint...

Singles / B31 breather
« on: 08 October, 2017, 19:34:24 »
On a standard B31 is the breather necessary from the timing case cover ? Occasionally mine just pumps oil out. Most bikes from the same age (55/56) do not have the breather just a blank space. So I thought I could do away with my oil trail. Is it safe to do so ?    :-\   Griff

The Star and Garter / B31
« on: 08 October, 2017, 12:33:56 »
Been having a debate about front brakes. At a show a 'rivet counter'  reconed my B31 could nor have in been registered late December '55 as it had the Ariel front hub and he recons they were only available from 1956. Surely the bikes were made in 55 for Jan.56 registration and a few were released before Jan 1st. Anybody got an opinion ?   :-\   Griff

Twins / A65 seat.
« on: 19 September, 2017, 20:10:58 »
Silly question, can you change the hump seat cover for a flat one on an A65 1965 model , or is it easier to change the seat ?  Any body for a swap ?...Griff

The Star and Garter / Steve Foden contact ?
« on: 15 September, 2017, 08:19:30 »
Just sent a form off for dating purposes and realised that I had not enclosed the cheque. (Must be an age thing)  So if Steve looks at this page, or somebody who regularly contacts him, 'the cheque is in the post' , a day later than the other paper work.  Thanks..   :o Griff

Singles / B31 Front wheel
« on: 07 August, 2017, 17:10:17 »
Looking at the front wheel on my B31 it has a 21" rim and tyre . The brakes are not good to say the least. Seems to be the right back plate but the new shoes only touch lightly in their centres. Looking at the wheel and the drum in marked , inside as GP 5554  with the letters HC  higher inside . Is this the correct wheel for the bike and if not what is the wheel I have ?  Some body suggested it was off a scrambler as the hub outer rim goes outside and the rim flange , with a futher rim on the inside. i.e. the brake plate rim goes in a chanel... If you can understand that jibberish you deserve a pint...    :o   Griff

Bantam / 2T oil
« on: 30 July, 2017, 21:42:48 »
Any recomendations for oil to use in my Bantam petroil mix ?  All supplies I brought back from France exhausted. I used Elf 2T oil before. Think it was mineral based..... Griff

Twins / B31 timing cover
« on: 30 July, 2017, 20:41:23 »
On my B31 I have a constant oil leak from the timing cover. Where the breather pipe leaves the cover is where the oil is coming from. Is this a breather valve or just a breather pipe?  Can't say I know too much about this type of engine...'L' plates on this job.... :-\  Griff
