Thanks for the advice. I've contacted PES to see if they have the new bushes, and new hacksaw ordered!

OK thanks.

I'll try the penetrant and twist method first as I don't want to jam it in there for good.

The clutch was completely seized - the bike was kept at the back of a garage for a few decades - so all the friction plates etc were bonded with rust and corrosion. I'm assuming the inside of the shaft is equally knackered.

Thanks for the advice

Pulled apart the clutch and gearbox on my C15.

The push rod going through the centre of the main shaft is stuck in there - see images.

Is there a knack to getting these out or do I just hammer it?

Thanks

Thanks Dave, I think the simple solution will be to buy a better hacksaw and have another go at it.

Much appreciated

Also, I tried to get the old one out at the weekend.

In the Rupert Ratio manual it said to hacksaw the protruding end so it could fold in on itself. I had limited success at even hacksawing it as my hacksaw is rubbish.

Have you got any idea how to get the thing out?

Thanks Dave, my usual supplier has sold out of the new bushes, any idea where I can buy them in the UK, or from someone who will post to the UK?

Much appreciated

Jody

I've read that the sleeve gear bushes on C15s can get grooved.

Photo of mine attached.

1. Do I need to replace the bush? No idea whether the groove that is there should be there or not!
2. If I need to buy the later two piece steel backed bushes, where can I buy them in the UK? I can't seem to find them online for some reason.

Thanks!

Hi, I am doing my first rebuild on a bike - a 1960 C15 - so I know nothing or very little about many parts or how they are supposed to be put back together! So please bear with me.

Currently putting the camshaft etc back in, and got to the point where the peg goes into the shaft and the washer goes over the peg - I think.

See attached image. Is this the correct way?

And whilst I'm at it, what function does the washer perform?

Thanks

Singles / Wanted - BSA C15 rear sub frame spacer tube
« on: 18 November, 2018, 20:50:33 »
Hi everyone,

I am trying to get hold of this part:

https://www.bsaunitsingles.com/item.wws?sku=40-4029

But this is the only place I can find it - but postage is $24, which is a lot for such a small part.

Can't seem to find one in the UK (draganfly.co.uk no longer stock them).

Does anyone know where I might be able to source one from? It's such a simple part but seems rare that it's sold on its own.

Thanks

Hi, I have to do the same for my C15.

I’ve never used a drift before (which may lead to me breaking either myself or the bike).

Can anyone recommend one to buy? Size, shape etc

There seems to be a few options out there and I just want to make sure I use the right one for the job.

Thanks

So the only way to remove the spindle whilst the wheel is still mounted?
I removed the rear brake mechanism before removing the wheel

Thanks

Hi, i have removed the rear wheel from my 1960 c15 so i can refurb it. Problem is i don't know how to now dissassemble it.

The spindle is still in, so the whole hub and brake assemble just spin around whenever i try and remove any of the nuts on them.

What's the best thing for me to do? Remove the spindle? If so how?!

Thanks for any advice in advance...

Thank you both for your help. I have the Rupert Ratio books and service sheets so I'll get my hands on a parts sheet too.

Singles / BSA C15 - rebuild and registration
« on: 24 July, 2017, 21:50:07 »
Hi, I am completely new to rebuilding classic bikes, or anything come to think of it.

My friend and I bought a BSA C15 off eBay for £600 but it needs a lot of work doing to it and parts before it is road-worthy. It is also not registered, however it does have a frame and engine number to go on.

I will no doubt have many questions over the next however long it takes me to finish it, but for starters I need some help with the following:

1. When I rebuild it, I want to use as many original parts as possible, but tweak the paintwork of the frame and tank so they are matt black not gloss black. Will the finish of the bike effect whether or not I can get it registered? ie. does the finish of the bike need to be as close to the original as possible

2.  How do I go about getting it registered once it's rebuilt?!

3. I have looked all over youtube and done a bit of searching but no-one seems to have a good visual guide on how to fix up the bike. I have the original manual but the images/diagrams aren't great for a newbie. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Thanks for any responses in advance
