Twins / Re: A65L fit an A10 Plunger Frame?
« on: 05 August, 2019, 21:02:08 »
i had a plunger chop 25 years ago with an a65 engine. if i remember correctly, the engine fits but the bottom bolt will not, so the bottom rails need welding together where the engine bolt ties each frame rail.

Twins / Re: A10 engine oil.

i m using fully synthetic oil in my a10 engine only without major issues. it will sludge up in winter though and the easy return can become the breather, so drips onto the clean patio. i think bsa were right when they recommended straight oil and oil changes for the seasons but its not always easy to buy.

My Maggie hates restarting when hot also. I wish I knew why. However I found if you swop the plug leads and kick over until the exhaust pops, then swop back, it starts. Why?

Twins / Re: High revving

We call these brake blocks and used as low speed and parking brakes on a power car. Common on feightbut not so  passenger trains.our 373 s use them and the cylinders have a ratchet and spring which keeps the brake on when the air bleeds off.

train brakes consist of 2 friction pads squeezed together on a disc by a pneumatic caliper. no pistons or slides involved. unless in valves . high speed braking is controlled by traction motors - regen braking.
in frozen weather most people leave the car at home and catch the train instead.

Twins / Re: A65 Thunderbolt intermittent misfire mistery

from my limited experience with an a65 spitfire. i found the highly tuned motor was very fussy about carburation. the new amals have removeable pilot jets and thats the direction i would go in.
check your spark with a strobe. if you have points are they insulated properly or sticking?

hi ken, luckily i m not a lawyer. but it  seems triumph disc front ends are ok. no mot required.
if crofty can source a t160 font end all the better as the forks are slightly lower i believe. also steering stop has to be made and the steering damper arrangement thought .

hello, a t140 disc front end on a bsa a10  was always a common mod to improve braking. its the restoration nutters who removed them. another mod is the later twin leading shoe front brake. i guess a lot of us will now have to have an mot.
