Singles / Re: 1952 B31 upgrades

i have bought an led pilot and headlight bulb off the internet and now run with the herd at night time.
better to be seen and no more charging issue with juicy, aftermarket  electronic ignition.

£350 for a virtually complete a10 plunger is everyones dream come true.
did you try to knock £50 of the asking price?

i think kidderminster motorcycles could supply most of that list.
i may have a tripod headlamp lens but not sure why its special to super rockets

do not buy the indian stands as they will snap and you can go over with the bike like i did.
i don t know if my side stand is correct as it is great in the down position but doesn t really retract fully to the frame when up. doesn t seem to ground on left handers though i don t push it. not when its running ok anyway.

Twins / Re: a10 forks twisting

all good suggestions which i will try. i do think the standard yoke clamp arrangement is not up to the job so making a brace seems the way to go.i wonder if the top yoke using a taper system is the main culprit.
i upgraded my 8" std f,w,h, brake by reversing the brake arm and making a bracket for the brake stop in another position. as per bsa racers and it works really well.

Twins / a10 forks twisting

i have uprated my front brake which now stops really well but the yokes dont seem to handle the forces and slowly twist over time.
anyone experience similar and find a solution?

hi glen,
i m happy with the emigo once i had the correct 2/1 drive. i had to open out the speedo rubber to make it fit though.
i ve spent loads of money on magnetic rev counter and speedo repairs in the past. the problem is a wearing bush inside but the unit is held together with rivets rather than screws so not maintenance friendly.

i ve come across a few repaired fin barrels so i know it can be done but its cleaning and shaping the spare fins that is holding me back. still looking around for metal plate.

thanks for all the replies
i will try steel plate if i can find any the right width and maybee try arc welding in small single puddles to avoid overheating. i think jb weld would look messy on cast iron barrels but if i had oxy acet bottles that sounds the best way with the correct rods for cast iron.

the engine spec is very impressive but i guess emission controls have damped it down to the 50bhp mark.

Twins / Re: Oil in frame oil capacity

hi nigel,
what is the oil return flow to the oil tank like when cold and when hot?
if your oil pickup is blocked then check the pick up pipe with ball free and whether the oil pump gasket is blocking the return hole. lots of other possibilities as well.

hi rob, reading your original post you are using old amal carbs you have had cleaned but you still need to physically check the pilot bush isnt blocked. plenty of posts about blocked pilot jets.
if ok cross that one of the list.

a bit of a wild guess, but have you checked for good compression at tdc. i ve had a a10 that had the exhaust and inlet pushrod mixed up on one cylinder and that wouldnt start whatever i tried.
check your pushrod lengths a nd that the valves compress when you turn over the engine to tdc. valves should be closed at tdc .
