Sidecars / Re: A65 Fitting?
« on: 22 May, 2018, 08:21:01 »
You will need to attach your Palma sidecar to the A65 at 4 points. Working from the front, there is a downtube brace which attaches to the bike, you then have a L shaped downtube (swan neck) attached from the brace to the front sidecar chassis mounting. Depending on the age of the chair, there will be a mounting either coming out of the body, or attached to a loop that goes under the body. From the mounting you need to attached a straight adjustable tube to the front engine mounting on the bike. If your A65 is a cross over brake pedal type you will need a ball joint fitting across the bottom frame loop. If you have the later brake (same side as pedal) there is a special fitting that goes through the brake pedal arm, although you can use the ball joint type fitting. Lastly, there needs to be a downtube running from the upper shock absorber mounting down to the rear sidecar chassis fitting. I have attached the only picture I can found so far of my A65 front fitting. If I find others I will post them up.

What petrol are you using, supermarket or a branded one? I have a Spitfire that had a similar misfire, it disappeared when I started using Shell V power. BP do a similar type of fuel, but empty your tank first. Also have you tried changing the plugs?

Triples / Re: wheels sizes for BSA Rocket 3
« on: 28 January, 2018, 15:29:50 »
I have a 19" front and an 18" rear on my R3. I have fitted a 18 X 4.00 rear tyre, the bike is on standard gearing. There is no noticeable difference in performance. I guess it depends if you want to spend a lot of money on buying a new rim etc or just buying a new tyre for a lot less money.

If you apply for a machine dating certificate from the BSAOC, it will both help you with registering your machine and give some of the history. Have a look at the BSAOC Machine Dating pages at  http://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/machine.html

Triples / Re: Side panel badge.
« on: 12 January, 2018, 09:06:45 »
My Rocket3 has been repainted by the previous owner and it looks like the name badge strips were removed. It would appear they are glued down as the ends of mine are lifting slightly. As the strips seem to be covered with a clear film, I would be careful what you use to remove them. Having done a search, Baxter Cycle in the USA claim to have the name strips at $38.50 each (parts numbers are 60-853 & 60-854) . I cannot find anyone in the UK who has them. Have you checked with the paint shop to see if they can suggest the best why of removal, I assume they must have come across badges stuck down like this before?

The BSA Factory records held by the BSAOC and VMCC are IDENTICAL.

Having checked with the Clubs Dating Officer, it is likely that someone at the DVLA is being pernickety about the dates as this comes up every now and again.

I have contacted Eddie Simpson on how to progress his request.

Date of Manufacture

It is stated on the Dating Certificate issued by the BSAOC, the date of manufacture is the same as the date of despatch.
The DVLA have accepted this since 1992.

A correction needs to be made about the BSA factory records. It was actually a joint venture between the BSAOC and VMCC to acquire the BSA factory despatch records from the Science Museum. The VMCC are mearly the custodians of the original books (they DO NOT own them) and the BSAOC has a complete copy of the books which it uses for Dating Certificates.
