Twins / Forks bottoming out
02 July, 2023, 13:06:38
Has any one tried 0w-30 grade oil in the forks, my A65 has had new fork legs bushes and seals, still on the same springs, i currently have 20w50 castrol in them as was advised it would stop the problem, they do not bottom out all the time just the odd ocassion, maybe the springs have seen better days and need replacing. ive ordered some 0w-30 to try first, but in the back of my mind i think the springs could be the problem. any advise always wecome, except lose some weight you fat bar steward lol.

Twins / Speedo drive oil leak
24 March, 2023, 11:32:50
Last year i found an oil leak was coming from my speedo drive, so i took it out to inspect, there was an o ring fitted that seemed worn, after trying to get a replacement with no luck, i replaced it with a metric one i had from my collection, it seemed to cure the problem, until now, ive searched again for the o ring with no luck, even dragonfly and burton bikes bits do not show one on the engine blow ups, So if that's right and it was something the previous owner fitted, what actually stops the oil from coming out, the drawings show 2 washers.10365-3375 & 10265-3395 do either of these stop the oil getting past the drive, the funny thing is there is a cut out on the shaft that makes it look like it was made for an o ring.
My bike is a A65 star.

Twins / Paint colour
02 February, 2023, 09:13:24
Ive been doing a little research on paint colour for my 65 star, i want to use a BSA colour as its none standard, for my year it should be the flamboyant blue, but i prefer the red, RS paints seem to have the monopoly on it, and expensive to boot, There seems to be a lot of vies as to the base colours , some say BSA used silver base gold metal flake on top and then candy apple red dye and lacquer, some say silver metal flake only and then candy red,  does any one have an alternative paint to RS, that gave a pretty good likeness to the original BSA finish.

Twins / Clunking gear change
07 July, 2022, 17:55:30
Bsa 650 star , for a few months now my bike has always had a slight clunk when going into 1st, just been out on it and it is getting louder and up to 3rd gear, coming down the box is smooth, but accelerating and changing up the box sound like hitting the chain guard with screwdriver sound. any ideas as to what could be happening.

Twins / running rich.
19 August, 2021, 10:50:49
Hi. i have a 1965 A65 twin. when i bought the bike it had a wassel carb on it, i was also given the amal 389 67 carb that was supposed to be the original. wanting to keep it as it came out of the factory i stripped the carb and cleaned all the parts in a sonic cleaner. put a new gasket set on it and fitted it, set the mixture screw to standard, the bike started first kick and ticks over nicely, but does not like much choke, the plugs are black and sooty. t ticks over lovely, and pulls off well, but when out for a long run it seems to splutter mid range, when i give it full throttle it clears and runs nice, and as soon as i settle to a 40/50mph cruise speed it goes back to slightly spluttering, if i drop a gear so the revs are higher it seems normal, my pilot jet is a 25 and the slide valve is a 3. 1/2. i was thinking of buying a 4 and trying that, any suggestions please.

Twins / choke dilema
28 May, 2021, 15:49:14
sorry guy's its  me again,  My A65 has a wassel carbon it when i bought it, but the previous owner gave me the amal carb , i found the float was sticking a bit, bad fit so i popped it in the lathe and rans some wet n dry around it,just enough to get it to slide smoothly, i sonic cleaned it all and fitted new seals and gaskets, it starts fine and ticks over lovely, but as i close the choke down it sputters and farts, so when i pull it back on it runs smooth and responsive, looking at it it seem backward as when the choke levr is off the chocke slide is down as though the choke is on, and as you pull the choke what normally would be on it lifts the flatish slide up out off the way, does this choke work in my mind in reverse, so when the lever is fully back the choke is on , and as you pull the choke lever round it puts the choke on. doing my head in trying to work it out.lol

Twins / Rear brake shoe problem
25 May, 2021, 19:03:55
Hi lads, i have a 1965 A65 star. ive had a set of rea brake shoes sent out because both the ones that where in it when i bought it where wrong, And the ones i ordered off line 1st time round where also wrong , both had flat ends, big learning curve for me, the one's i ordered from dragonfly are also not quit right, they sit slightly offset on the pin, i made a phone call to burton bike bits and was told no one makes those shoes for the 65 any more. the part number being 68-5516. I do not even have the original ones to get re lined. first thought was to get a hub pin made off set, but if it ever moved could lock the back wheel up, any suggestions idea,s.
many thanks in advance steve.

Twins / BSA A65 Star Fork stanchions too long
21 May, 2021, 18:02:28
Hi . i purchased a BSA A65 star, i wanted to replace the fork bushes and seal as they did not damp very well, upon stripping down i found one of the legs where bent, so i ordered some from classic bike ltd, they arrived today and are approx. 2 inches longer than the ones fitted, hence when in place and built up the springs are short of the bottom yokes. Are there 2 sizes for these A65,s as i was not offered an option when purchasing, and help would be appreciated, the only difference i can see is the steering lock is longer than the ones that are for sale. And has a chrome cover over it with a lock nut on top.
This is what i ordered from.BSA FORK STANCHIONS B25/ B44SS 1968-70/ A50/ A65 1964-1968 68-5144.
A50 & A65 1964 to 1968. mine is a 1956.
