Bantam / “Fluttering” at full throttle
« on: 14 August, 2021, 09:59:30 »
Hi All,

My Bantam is a bit of a mongrel but the top end is a rebored D7 barrel with one of Rex Caunt’s big pistons fitted. The head is D10/14 ie with the squish band.  It’s running a Monobloc which has been well cleaned; pilot 20, needle 105, needle notch two and main currently 180.

It starts easily and runs perkily up to three quarters throttle (around 45mph) but then starts to “flutter” and won’t accelerate further.  I suspected too small a main jet and have gone from 150 to 160 to 180.  There has been a small improvement but it still reaches a limit beyond which it will not go.

I’ve raised the needle which was worse and gave lumpy acceleration.

Should I go for an even bigger main jet? (How big do they Go?) or could it be ignition related? It runs a D7 crank, points on the left, and a separate remote coil under the seat.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Singles / C15 forks
« on: 14 January, 2021, 18:09:08 »
Ok, I finally managed to get my C15 forks apart. The oil seal holders were good and stuck. They’re the model with the two part holder, the screw-on part and the upper interference fit collar.

Before I put them back together can someone confirm where the oil seals go?  I had thought that on each leg one seal went between the holder and the slider and one went between the holder and the collar, but they were both fitted above the screw-on holder i.e. between the holder and the ‘collar’.

Which is correct?

Thanks.

(While I’m at it has anyone used a more modern ‘wiper’ seal on their forks?)

Bantam / C15 forks on a Bantam
« on: 07 January, 2021, 21:03:20 »
Hi,

My latest project is a D3 swinging arm Bantam which I’d like to do up as a green lane machine in the spirit of a pre ‘65 machine.  I don’t expect to do any serious trials but quite fancy having a go at long distance trials.

I’ve got a set of standard C15 forks which, although not great, are a big step up from the original Bantam items. I’ve got yokes that will work (with a bush in the lower yoke) and the forks have spindle clamps like the Bantam ones.

So my question is can anyone tell me what I will need to do/get done to be able to fit a D7 hub?  I’m guessing new torque arm, but what spindle will fit?  Anyone done this?

Thanks in anticipation

Singles / Bantam hub in C15 forks

Hi,

This is my first post so a bit of an intro’ ...
I’m based in (not so) sunny Suffolk and have a couple of Bantams plus a couple of Italian bikes (a Benelli 125 and a Morini 31/2).  I spend more time fiddling about than riding! But having moved out from N London the roads around here are much more inviting.
