The Star and Garter / Lucas spade keys
« on: 02 September, 2019, 10:06:41 »
Hi all,
when I had my first unit Star Twin in the 1980's I soon found out the minimalist spade ignition key dropped out easily on the move.  I carried a stubby screwdriver in my jacket pocket for on/off ignition duties.  I also wired in a concealed switch near the battery because anyone could switch your lights on when the bike was parked ( this was in the days that people used Brit bikes as regular transport ).
Looking at my latest nacelle model A50 I'm wondering if there's a way to fit a sensible ignition lock into the original location?

Twins / Handlebars to fit A50/65 Star
« on: 17 August, 2019, 10:56:29 »
does anyone have any suggestions for handlebars to fit a nacelle model unit twin?

My new to me 1964 A50 came with very shiny but awkward 'bars ( possibly pattern Matchless ) which were set angled down because the lower bend was wrong for the top shroud cutouts.  I've fitted some tatty autojumble find 'bars with about 3" rise and they're comfortable....but I don't know what they're off.

The Star and Garter / A50 brake ( again )

I've discovered that 1964 A50 Star twins could be ordered with an 8" instead of 7" front brake.
As my bike is very original I fancy going for this upgrade with hub skimming/ shoe sizing etc. to get the best out of it.  I had this done to an Enfield brake to good effect.

The question is;  are A10 8" fw. hubs the same carried through into unit twin use, same spindle size etc?

The Star and Garter / A50 brake

Greetings all,
I've just returned to BSA ownership after a lapse of 20 years.  The bike is a 1964 A50, identical to my first "big" bike in 1980.  That was a 1965 one and the 7" fwh brakes were not up to the performance.  After a year I fitted a Starfire wheel with the 7" BSA/Triumph twin leader jobbie.

My question is,  will the 2ls brake plate alone swap over ?  A BSA owning ( 6 or 7 of 'em ) friend  says it's a simple replacement.....anyone done this?
