Twins / A65 camshaft pinion extractor
« on: 02 December, 2017, 19:16:44 »
Can anyone please let me know what the extractor threads will be on a 1966 camshaft pinion ?

Twins / A65 extreme spark plug thread repair
« on: 30 November, 2017, 14:09:20 »
I've just got hold of the correct OIF type head for my A65 project.
One of the plug threads has been butchered by a drunken gorilla.
A standard helicoil just isn't going to be possible.
By the look of things either the hole is going to have to be completely welded up and re-machined or some sort of substantial insert fitted.
Any recommendations please ?

Twins / A50 Barrels ?
« on: 25 November, 2017, 12:44:47 »
OK folks.
The first of my dumb questions.
Is there any way that you can bore out or fit oversized liners into an A50 barrel to give a 75mm bore ?

I'm guessing that the answer is probably no, due to the casting being different, but I thought I'd ask just to be certain.

Twins / Identifying the age of a unit bottom end.
« on: 22 November, 2017, 19:44:01 »
I've got a unit twin bottom end which was purchased from a breakers.
There's no engine numbers stamped on and no sign of foul play either (no sign of numbers being removed)
It's substantially all there  with only the primary outer cover and outer timing cover missing.
I'd like to get some idea of the year of manufacture based on the features present.
Possibly a pointless exercise because it may be a complete mongrel itself but here goes.
Crankcases have 5/16" barrel studs.
Alternator stator mount is the cast alloy type.
Gearbox filler on crankcase
Timing plug plate front of TS crankcase.
The inner timing cover has the early type clutch actuation
Speedo drive bulge on the casting but not machined out.
The clutch is a 3 spring type.

Working from Roy Bacons restoration book I'm thinking about 19966-67 maybe ?
Any other opinions welcomed.

The Star and Garter / Back with a basket case
« on: 22 November, 2017, 19:09:25 »
Hello to you all.
I haven't been on here for a long time.
Long ago I had a 1948 B33 project which sadly I sold on to finance another project.
I have now acquired a 1972 A65 basket case.
I've got a complete rolling chassis but only half an engine so far.
This is a "back burner" project and I'm in no particular rush to get it finished, as long as it keeps inching forward.
I pick up bits now and then usually private sales.
Consequently what I have is something of a "bitsa" at the moment.
Please excuse any stupid questions I might ask - I'm a bit rusty on BSAs at present.
