Twins / Clutch Adjustment
28 August, 2021, 15:21:24
I have a standard clutch which I have cleaned whilst restoring. This model has the three ball bearing operator. I have some slack in the cable and adjusted the clutch cover plate. The clutch is engaging and dis-engaging, but I only have half travel at the handlebars. All seems a bit odd. Anyone else come across this. Have my balls shrunk ?

The Star and Garter / A65 Fork Top Nut washers
14 June, 2021, 17:34:40
I am building a special and need two washers to go under the top nuts of my forks. I am wondering if 97-4166 washers will fit from a 1971 A65. If anyone has one in their tool box could they measure the internal and external dimensions, not worried about thickness. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Cannot SORN
18 May, 2021, 15:09:03
I have a new V5 for my latest project. I tried to SORN it on line today, The website is saying that it cannot be SORN or TAXED on line because it is not licensed. It is directing me to a DVLA approved Post Office. Can someone explain why. Thanks.

I have found this brand new unopened 500g tin of this product. Not knowing what it is for I looked at the product on Ebay. Tins this size are selling between £200 and £240, what is this expensive paste. Will I ever need it. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Fuel tank and tar.
18 April, 2021, 16:14:52
I have cleaned out many rusty petrol tanks and sealed them correctly. The new project has had a full tank of 2 stroke since 1985. It has turned to treacle, one big mess. The tank is immaculate so I don't want to damage it. Any tips to dissolve the mess would be nice. Will 10% Acid touch it. Thank you.

Considering buying one of these, are there any issues I should consider. Generic issues and spares problems. Worked on A10's and A65 without problems. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / DVLA Woes.
29 March, 2021, 16:24:19
My old machine was first registered on 31st December 1963 according to the DVLA MOT search and it is an "A' Suffix. The Special Notes Section of the V5 states Declared Manufactured 1963. According to the Vehicle Details on the next page it is shown as Date of First Registration 15.08.1997. I think the bike fell off of the DVLA data-base and was examined and re-registered. So how does the DVLA have one date on their MOT data base and another date 30 odd years later on the V5. Do I write them a letter or is there a form to challenge this.
Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Aluminium Fuel tank leak.
03 March, 2021, 15:29:45
I have just got hold of an aluminium petrol tank. It had been welded on a bottom seam but never tested. The new weld has held petrol four several days. I tipped the tank to the opposite un-repared side and have noticed a pin hole which is barely breathing fuel, never the less it is a leak on a welded right angle seam. Would a liquid seal like POR15 resolve this pin hole. The tank is otherwise dent free and well worth keeping. Tank is from the 70's. Thanks.

The Star and Garter / Air compressor question.
16 January, 2021, 16:22:44
Thinking of getting a compressor, mainly for cleaning carb circuits, spraying degreaser and pumping up tyres. What size tank should I chose and what PSI or Bar will I need. Been looking at one with 25 litres and about 100 PSI for about £130. Any advice would be good, I don't have too much room in the cave. OR if anyone in Essex wants to part with one please PM me.

The Star and Garter / Aluminium Fuel tank leak.
06 December, 2020, 13:17:05
Just had a leak mig welded on a small seam on an aluminium tank. I have been using POR 15 on steel tanks for years which has never let me down. I read somewhere that it won't work on non steel tanks. I only wanted to apply it to the back of the weld. Has anyone had success with anything else. Thank you.

Twins / Popping on over-run.
17 November, 2020, 16:35:10
Since taking off my Siamese pipes and fitting twin side pipes and silencers I have a popping on over-run. Tend to blame the joints on the H Joint. I want to take it off and apply sealant to the joints. The compound's I have go off like concrete which I don't want. Is there a product that will seal but not fully harden. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Grease Guns
03 November, 2020, 18:06:12
My dads old grease gun has give up. I know the thread sizes on nipples have gone metric, but has the grease fitting changed or do modern guns fit our old swinging arm nipples. Thanks.

The Star and Garter / New paint and new fuel taps
25 October, 2020, 17:22:54
Collect my tank from the paint shop this week and don't want to spoil it. I put a 1/4" BSP gas plug in it to protect the threads. The new paint will be right up to the plug. Considering putting a new dowty washer on my new tap dry 'OR' shall I put liberal coats of Wellseal on the thread and washer. Might seem a bit picky but the paint was expensive. Thank you.

The Star and Garter / Mudguard protection.
04 October, 2020, 17:53:24
I have bought a pair of brand new chrome mudguards which were made to order. I am considering spraying the inside surface with stone guard or stone chip black paint. Any views on a better way, thank you.

The Star and Garter / Which wheel bearings.
23 September, 2020, 18:06:38
Just rebuilt a front wheel. The bearings seemed fine when I checked them, no noise or rumbles. Now the spindle is in there is slight friction on the spin by hand. I am considering new bearings which are not expensive, but which ones. There are sealed pairs for sale for £10 inc post ? I do like packing bearing's with grease. Am I  behind the times. I welcome your views ?
