Twins / Fork oil seals
« on: 15 April, 2018, 23:24:17 »
Hi all, I've been trying to change the oil seals on my 66 royal star. after getting the oil seal holders off I noticed the new seals are bigger than the old ones. new seal has an external diameter of 46.83mm with the internal diameter being 33.3mm. while the old seal has the same internal diameter the external is 44mm. I have managed to destroy one new seal trying to fit it as its very tight where as the old one can be pushed into place with my fingers. not sure seals can shrink as much as this. Any help in identifying the correct ones would be much appreciated, also tips for fitting them. Thanks Drummie.

Twins / Battery flat after riding with lights on
« on: 27 August, 2017, 20:38:36 »
Hi all,

Out on my bike today for a run.  Decided to use the lights.  Haven't needed to use them yet, so today was the first time.  Rode with them on for around 20 minutes.  Stopped bike and switched it off.  Went to start it again after 5 minutes and it wouldn't start.  Checked the lights and they were almost non existent (a slight glow).   Jumped it with another battery it fired up straightaway and the lights were fine.  Connected multi meter to it while it was running but readings were jumping all over the place so couldn't get any kind of reading from it.

I got the same problem using the multi meter when I got the bike a few months ago.  I've done decent trips on it and it has always been fine until today when I used the lights for the first time.
I've had charging problems with other bikes before but always got a reading to show its not charging
Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance.  Any help much appreciated.

Twins / Advice on possible new purchase please
« on: 15 April, 2017, 20:14:57 »
Hi all, i'm new to the forum and hoping for some advice please.

I am going to view a 1964 A65 Rocket.  I've been told by the seller that it has had a crankshaft bush to bearing conversion. However,The bike has not been on the road for at least 4 years.

Up until now I've been happy with what the seller has told me, i.e. what's been done to it, but the fear of god has been put into me after reading a number of comments on other websites about sludge trap problems.  So, I've come to the organ grinders for advice about this and any other advice you can give me about what I should look out for when purchasing one.

I've been looking to jump from Jap bikes for a long time and finally taking the plunge, so want it to be right.  :-\

Many thanks
