The Star and Garter / South West Wales Camp

Not long back from this and had a great weekend. Despite the weather forecast of rain on Saturday and Sunday the only real rain was overnight.
Arriving after a long ride on Friday we were greeted with tables loaded with fresh home made sandiches and cake and pots of tea. Later it was over to The Prince to meet old and new friends over a meal and beer.
The ride out on Saturday took us a scenic route to a small vintage vehicle rally where we spent a couple of hours looking at the vintage bikes, cars and tractors and perusing the small auto jumble.
After lunch it was a slightly more entertaining ride (involving a dramatic speedway style slide by Alistair's BSA Tracker when traffic lights inconveniently turned red) via Carmarthen to the beautiful Llansteffan Beech and continued glorious sunshine.

Food, drinks, natter, a raffle and prize giving in the club house ended a memorable day.

Many thanks to all at South West Wales for all their graft to give us a great weekend and a welcoming friendly atmosphere.

I'm already looking forward to next tear

We are hoping to edit the drone and on bike footage with still images to make a record of the South Derbyshire Camp. Sadly a phone glitch has erased all the photos I took so if anyone has any images please get in touch so I can get a copy from you.

The Star and Garter / BSAOC Rally at Mallory Park

Just back from a great weekend where it was great to meet up with BSA friends old and new.
Many thanks to the organisers who arranged this event at relatively short notice after the loss of our normal venue for the Open Day.

Special thanks must go to our National Secretary, Phil Bull, who not only put in so much work in advance but put in a huge shift over the entire weekend. Also massive thanks to Mick Fern for finding/negotiating the venue and for leading a wonderful ride-out though the lanes and villages of Leicestershire, lunch at Great Central Railway station at Quorn where the live steam was the icing on the cake.

The Star and Garter / Upper cylinder lubricant

Having several bikes thya can go a a while between runs allowing oil to drain off some moving parts. In addition the older bikes such as the Sloper don't have a rocker oil feed and is supplied with a lower cyclinder plug to remove so you manually have to squirt some oil into before starting the engine if its been standing for a few months.

In the old daya I would have had a squirt of redex when refueling but redex isn't marketed as an upper cyclinder lubrcant anymore. There are other products that (eg Lucas Oil) that claim to be upper cyclinder lubricant but I've not come across any independent reviews so for now have to list these under 'snake oil'.

One simple solution would be to add some two stroke oil to the petrol but would this work ro just coke everything up bver time ?

I would be grateful for any suggestions form anyone who has practical experience of this subject,

Sunday – Breakfast and break Camp at your leisure.

Bantam / The dreaded O ring in heavywieght Bantam forks

Its a pig to reassemble these forks without damaging the O ring. I'm on my second set due to ripping them on the first attempt and have probably buggered one of these. So before wasting any more time and money I am thinkinmg of missing them out and just using ptfe tape on the slider threads. As far as I can see the purpose of the o ring is to stop leaks but on my other BSAs we use twine or ptfe.

If anyone with experience of these forks can advise I'd be dead chuffed.

Bantam / B175 fork assembly question

I am rebuilding a set of B175 forks but don't know which way up the nylon slider that goes between the upper and lower bushes should be installed.
The  nylon slider has two inner diameters. For half its length the bush is a sliding fit on the stantion for the remaining length the wall of the slider is thinner so there is a gap between the stantion and the slider.
So, should it be installed with the thicker section uppermost or the thinner section uppermost?

Twins / Lining A10 rear brake drum

I've had to resort to oversize linings for brake drums in the past but I am considering instead getting the rear drum on the A10 relined as its very worn.
Has anyone any experience of having thsi done or know someone who could do it?

The advert in the Star gives the WRONG postcode for the camp site as DE4 2ER.
The CORRECT one is DE4 2DR.

PS. for those that succesfully find their way to Winster there will be cake and maybe even candyfloss!

The Star and Garter / Thanks for Founders Day

My thanks to Phil D and Bill N and the other volunteers for setting up and manning the BSAOC section at Founders Day yesterday. A great effort by to make sure our Club was represented at this significant event in the classic bike calendar. It is especially appreciated given the sweltering conditions which were keeping the St John's Abulance people very busy all day!

The South Derbyshire summer camp has been moved back to 13-15th August so hopefully things will be getting closer to normal.
