i have uprated my front brake which now stops really well but the yokes dont seem to handle the forces and slowly twist over time.
anyone experience similar and find a solution?

i wonder if anyone can help identifying my 1971 a65 crankcase threads i need to block. it is the 2 oil gallery holes bellow the oil pump and prv that are normally blocked off. the screws are missing [ probably drilled out ] and the threads are fine, similar to the oil pressure switch thread.
some information i ve read refers to 1/8 nps or 1/8 asp for the oil switch.

i may be able to turn up at the birmingham camping weekend on the saturday and camp overnight.
do i have to buy a ticket in advance or can i just turn up ?

i have bought an emigo speedo which works great but over reads by about a third. i m wondering if the speedo is  a 1600 ratio instead of a 1000 ratio. the speedo drive is 1.25 / 1 and i am asking any knowledgeable person on the forum whether a 2/1 ratio speedo drive would be the way forward.

in all the manual specifications by bsa the thunderbolt has n4 spark plugs whereas the other models have n3 specification.
i am running n3 spark plugs as i think they are quieter but am i missing a trick here?

only 2 issues left with the a65. this one is a brain teaser.
connect speedo cable and no speed indicated.
drive round the block with the cable disconnected and inner spins away happily.
disconnect cable and drive inner from speedo driive and then  using a drill the speedo works.
i suspect the cable but must be able to get this to work somehow?

i m thinking of buying a 28mm wassel concentric carb so i can squeeze in a pancake air filter there.
are they any good?

last issue with my a65 is the speedo , [ triumph maybe? ]150mph magnetic anti clockwise rotation but the speedo drive turns the speedo cable clockwise.
i hear you can reverse the speed drive gear but then the speed cable would have to point upwards wouldnt it?
are speedo drives left or right handed?

finally sorted out my a65 clutch without taking it off the bike.
its an early 4 spring and i found a machined ridge near the flange part of the cush drive outer was stopping the plain plates seating and moving correctly.
strange as the drum is original bsa but badly finished. i used 2 friction plates to bypass the ridge area as i m too lazy and impatient to remove it .

i have avoided another a65 for 30 years but here i am again with a thunderbolt with the same old problems.
firstly, the new gearlever i bought only contacts about half the width of spline area due to the centre bolt locating on the non spline section of the gear shaft. surely a wider gearlever would help avoid the wear and tear issue with both splines ?
also the clutch. you think you have set it up correctly but go round the block and the clutch is dragging.
i have the clutch cover off. its standard 4 spring but there is hardly any lift. i am going to have to play around with the plates and maybe leave one out.

i am trying to register a 1965 bsa a65 . i bought the frame with swing arm rear wheel etc minus engine and front end in this country knowing that the frame originally came from the states.the seller was certain you dont need a nova for a incomplete bike and basically a frame.
later on i bought a later oif engine of the internet and have found a front end in my garage. seat and other parts bought and bike complete for registration. i recieved my registration document from the bsaoc and found out the engine came from the states as well and on the bsac document it states i need a nova1. how do i get a nova 1 when the frame wasnt issued with one when imported or will i need to fit a uk registered engine to make things easier? will the F.S.B. want to impound my bike ? also i cant believe a q plate is my only option.

almost completed my mongrel 66 a65 with an oif engine project.
i have a65 side panels ,cross over bracket , but somebody nicked the coil brackets 68 9278 and 9279.
having rung around the usual bsa dealers and trawled internet i realise i will have to make these from scrap.
so could anyone be so kind to give measurements ?

hello a65 engine experts.
i had 2 rocker spindles with snapped whit bolts at the large diameter end. i have removed them both but although there is an oil hole in the large end there is no internal oilway to the rest of the rocker spindle. i m not familiar with the cylinder head oilways so what am i missing here?

i have a post 66 thunderbolt cylinder head with one set of valve springs missing so bought a new set on the internet to save time. these are branded as hepolite and looked good in the packet. however the coil wire thickness is thicker than the originals and when assembled the coils are bound up before the originals. in the end i only used one of the hepolite set and kept the originals in place. is this another case of inferior pattern parts or am i worrying too much about coil binding?

i have a b31 with the 18d1 points unit. can anyone advise me on how to remove condensor and lubricate auto unit when i m in there. will i have to reset points gap if i take the plate off? no information on the internet.
i have a neg earth inductive discharge unit i am going to fit but unsure whether keeping the condensor is  necessary. but can the points run ok without the condensor fitted?

my alternative b31 had an annoying engine oil weep [drips underneath the gearbox ] after a ride and cured it by buying new shiny oil pipes of groanbay.
now the same weep is back after a month. i suspect the crimping and oil pipe is poorly made. anyone else have issues? made in india?

hello. i m a bit confused by bsa service sheet 312 carb settings. my large fin 350 has 1" port and 376 carb , needl;e 3rd notch ,260 main jet and bellmouth.
it runs ok with a goldie silencer . should i go for a larger main jet? after a run the engine is hot  but i am running in. the issue will be when  i will need to hop along the odd motorway junction at a steady 60 to 70mph. do not want to seize the engine.
any advice?

i have a lovely looking goldie silencer but its too loud. i need some baffling so anyone been down this route?

i am looking at the anlas 400x18 rear tyre to fit my silentbloc swing arm a65. half the price of an avon or dunlop. so anyone have this tyre on their a65? any good ? what is the best tyre choice?
