Twins / 1965 Lightning coil mounting
« on: 17 March, 2018, 14:22:54 »
Evening all.

Well I have finally bought an EI for my 1965 lightning. My original points mechanism got so worn I couldnít do a lot with it.

I have bought a Pazon with a dual output coil.

Do you see any problem with me mounting the coil and the ignition box in my tool box tray behind the rhs side panel? It would be tidy and out of sight, I just worry about heat from the oil tank and enough airflow?

Any help and advice would be gladly appreciated!

Many thanks

I use Carole Nash and I would recommend them. I did an agreed value, I sent in photos and also examples of the same bike in similar condition that had sold or were being advertised online. I had no problem getting the value agreed.

I also spoke to them recently and they are going to honour the Ďno mot for bikes over 40 yearsí rule that looks set to happen in May. Itís worth checking that your insurance company is going to as well.  🍻👍🏻

Iím looking to buy a few new cables (brake, clutch and throttle) I hear lots of people talking about Venhill cables. They seem quite expensive. I donít mind paying out if they are worth it?  Or can anyone recommend a good company?
I would like to learn how to make my own one day, I have never done it before.
Many thanks.

Hello Chris,

No, I didnít hear anything for nearly a year. I contacted him a month or so ago and he said the pictures were not good enough to make the magazine. Shame.

I was going to contact you about a nice thing that happened to me. Cut a long story short, by chance at a car/bike show a chap recognised my bike and had photos of it back in 1965 with the original owner. 2 friends had a pair of clubmans, mine was one of them. Sadly the owner of mine has passed away, but his friend who had the other one (consecutive number plates as well) lives in Canada and I am in touch with him. Lots of stories and photos have emerged and he is coming over next year to see the bike!

Twins / 389 Monobloc choke sliders
« on: 06 January, 2018, 08:36:22 »
Hello all,

Iím new to this forum. Although Iíve been a member of the club for 4 years now. I own a 1965 Lightning Clubman.

A quick question, can I leave the choke sliders out from my 389 monoís?  If so, I guess I would need to block the cable hole off?

I never ever use the choke, I always flood the carbs from cold and it normally starts first kick....! I keep the choke lever tightened right up as it has been known to vibrate round. Would be nice to just remove it all.

Many thanks in advance
