Hi you will need to undo the two nuts right at the back under the seat. Pull the seat up off the frame and then slide it back away from tank. Take care replacing not to catch any wire at the front. Wd b40 are different in many things from civilian ones. It should also be 12volt. My is .   great bikes

If you are buying a new carb direct from amal, take care , it took 4 months to get mine. as it turned out they did not have one made up and no orders, so kept putting me off. Terrible customer service. They even charged me postage on a cable adjuster, which they forgot to include in original order. Then it had to go back as bike ran rough, like yours . Turns out they had fitted 2 stroke internals. Mines a 1967 B40, all sorted now and runs lovely.
Best service is from surrey cycles  01342 716 120.
If I had known at the time could have had one next day, lovely people

you could always look at fitting an LED lamp. Tiny but very bright just attach it to back of headlight bulb holder or to bullet connector.
I fitted one to my WD B40, loads on eBay , make sure its correct voltage and forward facing focus, you can even get colored ones.
 Very modern!

yep that's fine
looks just same as mine
just check the plastic heal on the end of points, that it is not badly worn, as it can make setting up difficult
only put a small amount of oil on felt tab

« on: 22 January, 2018, 15:08:43 »
Can you advise if the standard chain will fit with the 28 tooth sprocket from a Victor to improve WD B40 gearbox
Any suggestions as to where to buy from, TSM have the 28 tooth sprocket for 33, no idea about chain.

Thank you
Paul

Hi all just as a final
I sorted the problem.
The carb was overheating and boiling the fuel, spacer I made from aluminium was transmitting the heat from the head.
Purchased a 12 mm fiber spacer from surrey cycles. Took bike out  last night, runs a treat and finally I can set the carb up for tick over.
The moral to my problem is so don't use nice shiny aluminium spacers on your carb without a heat proof spacer
thanks for your help

« on: 16 May, 2017, 22:24:52 »
hi
if you want to improve  gear box on a WD b40 fit one from a road bike.
I fitted a 19 tooth gearbox sprocket and a box out of a 1968 250 cc starfire, direct swap. bike pulls a treat, still flat out at about 60.
Keep the back sprocket as standard
Sell your old box to pre 65 guys and enjoy the ride

Singles / WD B40 New Amal carb
« on: 15 May, 2017, 22:06:18 »
Hi I am new to site, but could really do with any help
I have rebuilt my 1967 WD B40.
purchased a new premier Amal 626 carb, which was set and jetted by Amal, along with one of their cone air filters
The bike starts well on the choke and warms up so choke is off.
The problem is once the bike gets hot it will not tick over, stalls and is hard to start.
Trying to reset the pilot jet and tick over ends up with the engine racing and cutting out.
I have tried running the bike stopping and adjusting pilot and tick numerous times
I have checked timing and valves several times, new points and condenser, bike has new coil and wiring, battery . It runs on a power box instead of rectifier and zenor.
I am not new to classic bikes , but first time with the  new Amal carb.
Contacted Amal, they suggested bigger pilot,  this did not help the problem
My day bike is a 1987 R100Rt BMW and I can get that ticking over down to 800rpm without any problem.

Advice please before I send it back to Amal and rebuild the old tired one it ran on before.
