Hi Guy's
Still trying to sort out my clutch, as to whether the main shaft is wrong or the clutch sleeve. Both look right by looking at parts book pictures. But the clutch sleeve slides on and of by hand  and not wedge on the tapper. The 1949 parts book list it as 66-3799 and the picture looks the same but dragonfly list it as
65-3873 and again the picture looks the same does anyone know if theses two part numbers are the same.

Hi Guys
More help with my 1950 B31 plunger rebuild please. The clutch was a mess of bits when I got it so dummy run putting it back and lining it up.
Picture shows the clutch sleeve goes up to drive sprocket net, book says should be felt and cork washer there ( sleeve oil ring collar not on there yet).
Does anyone know the length of main shaft from sprocket nut to shaft end Picture 2
Have I got the wrong main shaft (the gearbox seemed right) or the wrong sleeve or just doing it all wrong
Picture 3 view of drive sprocket.

Hi All
1950 B31 Engine shock absorber, How do you compress the spring to get the fixing nut on and when you have it done up how do you bend the lock washer which is inside the spring.

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for the reply. I think I have solved the oil seal problem. I brought a 1.5 inch from a bearing supplier and it is slightly bigger than the on from Dragonfly but will still have to glue it in. In saw an article on BSA Bulletin board, from Australia about half moon pegs, half moon at the bottom and round peg into the Mag base. I t helps to overcome slightly worn slots. I have been experimenting with a bolt. The wider metal surface fits the slots better and covers my worn spot
How do you line it all up, do you do it by eye to get the shaft central or is there a technical way. I understand fitting shims to sort out the gear mesh. How far to the timing case should it all go.

« on: 28 February, 2018, 20:39:47 »
On my 1950 B31 gearbox between the main shaft ball race (clutch end) and the main shaft sleeve gear there is a oil retaining washer 24-4225 which is set over on the last part of the outer circumference. Can anyone tell which way round it goes.

Hi All
More help needed with my 1950 b31 renovation.
I have split the crank case, the big end seems ok but I intend to change the main bearings. There is a ball race and a lipped roller race on the drive side and a lipped roller race on the timing gear side.
Should I replace the lipped races with the same or use plain ones.
Watís the advantages and disadvantages of using lipped ones.
Why were lipped one fitted in the first place.
What way round should the lip go.

Singles / Re: !950 b31 petrol tank
« on: 16 January, 2018, 21:15:01 »
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the info. My tank has the small oblong BSA badge with wing. Underneath at the front there is a link pipe connecting the two sides of the tank. According to Julianís parts book this link pipe was only fitted on the M series part No 66-8285, my sprung 31 should have tank part No           65-8161.
Does anyone know what the physical difference is between the two tanks. The reason I ask is that the tank needs re chroming and repainting if spend the money on this tank will it look right or should I look for the right tank
