While the wheels are away I'm looking at the aluminium brake plate, any advice on the best way to get a nice Finnish would be welcome, cheers, Dave.

Not sure if this would work in your instance but in my own garage I placed 25mm polystyrene over the floor and then used tongue and grove chipboard over that gluing the joints,at the front I placed a piece of angle stainless steel to cover the edge and make a solid edge for the bike to go up, works well and adds a bit of insulation to the tootsies, cheers Dave.

Wouldn't you just know it, mines a 64, well I'm going for 18 as this is the figure on the old rims and for the reasons A W explains, thanks for the help, Dave..

Played some very similar on a garage floor on an extension we built a couple of years back, did the job well except for when the garage door was open and they were subjected to bright sunlight, the expansion caused then to lift, so plan for an expansion gap around the edges if a temperature difference is likely, good luck, Dave.

Hi all, just dropped hubs of at Devon rim co, the original rims had" wm 2 18 Jones " stamped on them and I assumed that meant 18" rims, the chap at Devon thought they should be 19" on getting home I measured the old ones and from outside to outside they measure 19" anyone throw some light on this, cheers Dave.

Hi Bess, tried moving the sprocket round all positions have the same problem, tried a few different things then tried leaving out the outer sleeve and it tightened up ok, I think the sprocket side bearing may be the problem it measures approximately 16 mm wide whereas the brake side measures 14mm , off to c&d in the morning to check the sizes, I suppose I could always cut a couple of mil of the sleeve if necessary, cheers, Dave.

Hi, I asked around quite a lot when I started the project and Devon rims came out on top, I'm taking my hubs down next weekend ( making a long weekend of it) as long as I get the rear assembled in time, having a bit of trouble, it's all ok until I tightened the sprocket nuts the last turn the spindle then goes pretty tight, have another go the weekend.

Hi Bess, I measured the offset before stripping the old rims and spokes if you only have the hubs someone on here may be able to help if you have the machine details, the rim size may make a difference to the spoke size, Devon rim co may be able to help, good luck.

They look like the monkeys AW,bit pricey but as long as it's our secret, cheers, did think about chrome Mike but I think the chain would damage the Finnish on the teeth and possibly cause it to flake off (predictive text nearly got me in to trouble with that one).

Anybody know if you can get the four elongated nuts that hold the rear sprocket on in stainless steel?
