As I had effectively a blank canvas with my bike I made a custom wiring loom & wired it negative earth to suit the components I was installing. I also didn't use the AC output from the Eletrexworld system for the lighting as per their suggestions as was installing a battery & ran it from that.

Hi Mike

With my B44 Victor Special it took me a while to nail the carburation - the biggest effect was changing the needle jet as it seems if only slightly worn can affect the running drastically - all other components & settings being in good shape of course. As for starting.... It's first kick with mine from cold...although it hates an audience - don't we all - & will sometimes let me down & need a couple more if we have gawpers later! I'm sure correctly timed electronic ignition helps along with the knack you develop. Good luck!  ;)

Hi Silverfox. It really isn't a huge problem even if you've got no paperwork at all like I did for my Victor Special - coincidentally! All I had was a reciept from the seller. You apply to HMRC for the Nova certificate using their form, which takes a couple of weeks to come, I also enclosed a covering letter stating what I knew about when it was imported & by whom & how much I paid for it. Include a copy of the receipt. No duty was required to be paid by me. Then the application can be made to DVLA following the guidelines on this website for an age related number. Keep copies of everything you send em, including the dating certificate! Be meticulous & send them exactly what they need otherwise you'll be tooing & frowing - as others have had..... My application went very smoothly indeed it has to be said... Good luck!

Whilst I admire your determination Mick in achieving good performance from your old Beezer, maybe, as others have said, its a few years old by now & probably past it's best - performance wise. If you like going fast, how about getting something more suitable that's gonna satisfy your need for speed & take it on a track away from the public in case it goes BANG in a big way!  :-[ Good luck!

Hello Rob.

I've a B44 Victor Special that came to me with a simple electronic ignition only system, no alternator & no battery & fittings etc... As I wanted to run lights etc I opted to replace it with the Electrexworld kit of alternator / ignition kit that can charge a battery & provide AC for lighting. Bit pricey, but compared with everything else I'd need going a different route it works out cost effective in the end. The AC lighting output was feeble & I opted to run the lights from the small scooter battery I fitted, which is OK provided you don't try & run very high wattage lamps. I've converted all my lights now to LED which are manageable & bright! Good luck!!

I would go for a higher strength version maybe 648? I used some I liberated from work in a little jar that's still good & green in colour but cant remember the number of it!  ::)

The washer should be big enough so that an edge of it can be bent up to lock the nut once its been torqued up tight. Check by popping it on the nut....You might need to persuade the edge up with a thin screwdriver....

I'm lucky to have access to some small, very strong rare earth bar magnets - Scalextric cars if yer can rob em!... & following a complete strip & rebuild of my B44 engine & subsequent thorough flushing of the oil tank,  have simply wired one of these to the dipstick as a safety measure. So, yes do flush the tank & filters till you get em clean. In use the magnet gets a light black coating after a few hundred miles that wipes off on a rag. Saves filling up the sludge trap!   ;)

Hi Nick.

Stating the obvious really...but in case you didn't know the books by Rupert Ratio are the "Bible" for these bikes... full of useful info & improvement tips. As for mudguards, mine came with the alloy jobs but they can be had from a couple of places I spotted on the interweb...Try Feked. They took over the Sammy Miller offroad stuff. As for're right, they're hard to find especially in half decent nick. I had to do quite a refurb job on the one I tracked down. I believe there's someone in the states who has had some made.....but blimey.... Good luck!

Hello Nickdun,

Funnily enough I did exactly what you are undertaking just over a year ago. The same model too! I bought my Victor Special from a chap who had ridden around the woods for a bit on it, then left it unridden for several years. It too was repatriated about 10 years ago from Texas & came with no documents - other than my purchase receipt. First thing with regard to documentation is to get a NOVA form from HMRC & you'll get it cleared that there is no duty payable on it. It all seems a bit daunting to start with but the guide on this website as given above is very helpful. Just follow the steps... Then once it's all rebuilt & together you apply for an age related number plate, having got a dating certificate from the BSAOC to prove it is what it is!

I too would be interested in finding out where my bike had been from it's despatch in 1967 to the US before coming home but I believe that the US transport depts don't hold records for such things like us Brits!

My B44 peanut silencer - or as I saw on a forum post once, "loudener" is from Armours & has a very healthy bark. Gets you noticed & on a long ride you need earplugs &/or a decent fitting helmet like my Davida otherwise can be wearing after a while. Dunno what to suggest as stuffing cos it'll ultimately get blown out...sorry....

I'm with RH Insurance & have 2 bikes on the same policy - a '75 Triumph Trident & a '67 BSA Victor Special. Both have decent agreed values. Its really simple. Do some research & try to find decent replacement bikes similar to yours to give you an idea of what they're going for.
Then following the insurers instructions, take photos & email them off. There has never been any disagreement with the values I have suggested, & goodness forbid if the worse happened, you'd get paid out the agreed value of your bike(s).

Thanks for the replies so far chaps. Yes, I was really asking about how others had constructed their sheds & the pitfalls or otherwise of going certain ways. I must admit to a certain degree of "Shed Envy" re Star twin's HUGE job! Lovely! My pal has a lovely brick built job with a machining area equiped with a mill & lathe, with bike storage to the side & a separate assembly / building area behind. Very jealous!

So most of you guys with sheds with wooden floors don't have problems with "sweating" or condensation on the bike's cold bits in summer? 

As I said, if money was no object, I'd opt for a concrete base with integral damp proof membrane, screeded smooth floor & brick / block wall construction, with a pitched tiled roof......then move out there myself!  8)
