Hello all,
At the back end of last year I noticed a whine from the gearbox when coming off the throttle on my 64' A50. Seem to remember it happened mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear. Stripped the box today and all seems well with no play in bearings/bushes, and no wear on pinons or shafts etc. Primary seems good too.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks....Shaun.

The layshaft needle roller bearings are usually the culprits. That's why the noise is apparent in second and third when the layshaft is doing some work. Leave it long enough and first gear will start singing to you aswell. It's not disastrous as I've never heard of one breaking or seizing up so no need for an urgent fix.
