Title: tappet adjust check
Post by: 6352N19-11 on 24 January, 2018, 09:55:08
can anyone tell me how best to check tappet gap. I find it impossible to get a feeler in level and straight. I have read that some just rely on if there is clearance that is ok or if they can twist the push rod then that is ok.
Your advice would be appreciated

It's never that easy to check the tappet gaps. Sometimes it's best to remove the 8 and 10 thou feeler gauges from their holder so you can slide the middle of the feeler gauge between adjuster and valve holding using both hands to hold the ends of the gauge. Normally, I just bend the end of the gauge to the appropriate angle to make it easier to slide into position. It's not advisable to adjust the tappet clearance without using a feeler gauge.
