At last, an option to enable us to keep riding our older unit twins. The price is comparable to the Pearson system for the B series pre unit singles and Steve Macfarlane's system for the A7/A10. Also, includes a dry belt drive, which alone would cost a lot. Plus no more leaks from the chaincase. What's not to like.
Look out for more details in a forthcoming edition in The Star

Have a chat with Steve mcfarlane ( the man who started SRM) he has been working on an A65 starter kit.

 :) :) :) :)

I took a serious look at this (Dry clutch kit is stand alone at about £600) But even so at 3K that puts the bike outside my budget and relatively outside a sensible resale price. In that it would most certainly decrease the the field of interest.

Agreed with price putting it out of reach, i suppose that R&D for this would have cost quite a bit of money, But as said it is a solution for the ageing biker. Something i would quite like. It is nice to see improvements coming to the market. i suppose i will have to start saving.

For what it is worth I have fitted the Steve's A10 electric start on my golden flash. It was an intensive detailed fit but works well.

Hi,

I think that the way to look a this is as an enabling device.  Some of the motivation behind Steve's A10/A7 starter was/is to enable those needing help to keep riding the bike they love and may have invested lot of time and money in.
This is really the same and now extends the ability to keep riding unit twins.  A starter for unit singles and plunger framed A10/A7 would also be a great bonus for those of us needing that extra help.
£3k is a lot of money but what is the alternative if your bike must be a BSA?  One of the new ones is more than double the price and will not be the bike you want to keep riding.

Dave.

I have a Pearson electric start on my B33 and after a lot of work onto my 1948 M33. I would like an electric start on my Shooting Star. the problem is pinning Mr Macfarlane down to do it and getting the bike to Wales. After asking him if could buy the kit and fit myself and not receiving any further correspondence. I gave up.

I don't think steve is taking new orders yet - he's clearing the fittings he already has to do.
We have to accept that any small business may take longer to respond - if he's on the lathe or mill he can't be on the phone or typing emails.
Few small businesses can afford to employ a receptionist to tell you you can't have what you want when you want it (that doesn't earn money to pay for themselves) or a computer system that sends you around the houses ppushing buttons until you hang up, or an email auto-responder that wishes you have a nice day.
Try getting a Hinckley Triumph serviced in the Summer when every fair-weather rider wants it done - I was quoted a 10 week lead time for a 24k major service & £650 plus consumables. I sortred out an alternative.

I quite understand re cost and being a small buiness, but not sell your product means that you remain a small or non business when your potential  customer  base gives up.

I dont think Steve is bothered about being a big supplier. He's been there and done that very successfully. He is hard to pin down but if you catch him on the phone he is extremely interesting to talk to and very helpful.

BUNNERS

I have fitted a similar item from the same supplier, Shropshire Classic Motorcycles, they are manufactured by ARK Racing and in my opinion an excelent piece of kit well worth the £2400 the unit for my 750cc Triumph TR7RV cost.
