Afternoon all
I've just bought a 1971 250 Victor it's a bit of nostalgia trip as Triumph T25ss was my first bike
The bike has a centre stand which looks and fits correctly It's not great as both wheels touch the floor when on it but that's ok
The problem is it and the side stand interfere with each other when up
Has anyone had a similar situation
Cheers
Mick

To me your sidestand looks to be a pattern one perhaps as there should be some bend in it to allow clearance for the main stand. As attached, my B50 came with just the sidestand from the Factory (mainstand an option) which was the BSA original and then I fitted a mainstand myself which clears it.

I do have the original side stand which is also straight but its pretty knocked about and didn't inspire confidence so I replaced it
All the photos I can find online seem to show them straight
The centre stand looks correct and I assume like you say it was optional extra the bike also has a rev counter which originally so I assume that was an option too
If I can't work out what wrong I'll probably take the centre stand off like most stands of the period it's not great
Cheers for the pic

After closer inspection and a bit of head scratching I think your right Ian it should be bent
That would solve both the stands hitting and the side stand hitting chain guide
Thanks again for the picture
Time to heat some metal
Cheers

Ian could i trouble you for a pic of your centre stand
Jus to check if mine is correct
Thanks

I'll be working on the B50 later, so will send more pics Mick.

Some more pics Mick as requested. The main stand is an OIF A65 one with the 'S' shaped 'foot' cut off as I believe BSA did back in the day. The small peg foot at the bottom of the leg I welded on, but made it as short as possible to hopefully prevent it hitting the sidestand. Bear in mind it's still easier to pull out the sidestand to use the mainstand but don't leave your leg in the way too long as the sidestand will hit it!!

Perfect just what I needed
That matches my centre stand which has had the same alteration
It suggests the problem is the side stand not having a bend in it
Thanks alot for the help

Hello Ian & Mick.
I too have fitted an OIF A65 centre stand to my B50 and had to chop off the 'S' shaped foot so that it wouldn't interfere with the side stand. My problem is that it's a real pain to get it on the centre stand and when it is, the rear tyre is 2 1/2" clear of the deck (18" Roadriders). Could you please tell me what the measurement is from the centre of the centre stand pivot bolt to the edge of centre stand leg.
Mine is 10", apparently the same as a standard B50, but I was thinking a centre stand off a T140 may improve matters, as they are only 9 1/4". Mick, you may have a shorter stand already fitted if your wheels are touching the floor.
Regarding the side stand which came with the bike, it was bent. Thinking it was damaged I bought a new one from Burton Bike bits and it was straight so I've fitted that??

Cheers Jim

Hello Jim, The dimension of my centre stand is 10", but I don't have an issue with using it as long as I deploy the sidestand too and remember to get my leg out of the way before it hits it!!

Morning Jim
My centre sand is 9 1/4 inches from centre of pivot bolt the lowest point on foot
Both wheels touch the ground when on the centre stand it's stable and easy to get on and off
18" rear 20" front with trials tyres
I think it could do with being 1/2 inch higher but it works fine

Thanks for that guys. I wonder if BSA did two different centre stands for the B25/50 depending on the size of wheels and tyres. I suppose using roadriders, which are low profile, exacerbates my problem with such a big gap under the rear wheel.
I'm going to keep my eye open for a 9 1/4" stand, as I really don't want to be getting a hernia at my age.
many thanks
Jim
