Ive been doing a little research on paint colour for my 65 star, i want to use a BSA colour as its none standard, for my year it should be the flamboyant blue, but i prefer the red, RS paints seem to have the monopoly on it, and expensive to boot, There seems to be a lot of vies as to the base colours , some say BSA used silver base gold metal flake on top and then candy apple red dye and lacquer, some say silver metal flake only and then candy red,  does any one have an alternative paint to RS, that gave a pretty good likeness to the original BSA finish.

Looking at the RS Paint web site seems to give the colour as Sky Blue but it doesn't indicate that this is a candy/flamboyant colour? My understanding is that the original Flamboyant red used a silver metallic basecoat followed by a number of coats of red lacquer followed by a clear coat. I've had 4 x BSA bikes sprayed in this colour but, after doing a bit of research, decided the finish would be better using a gold metallic basecoat.

RS Paint are relatively expensive but I have not found any other way of achieving an authentic finish, especially for flamboyant/candy finishes.

My mate Mick from karbon footprint has said he can match it, so i will let him do it, it will be better than the current colours, the muddys and panels have gone to be blasted, but ive done the tank by hand using a small rechargeable da. Ns got it into to etch.

Bare metal looks quite good to be honest.

Ive purchased 2 new side badges so with those and some quality pics he reckons he can get it near enough, I thought about the gold but it makes it quite a warm looking red, as soon as we have them done i will post some more pics. Although the current colours look ok , i feel better knowing its something like what it should be. here' micks site. https://www.facebook.com/Karbonfootprint-Hydrographics-103138008484190/

I've probably still got some of the Flamboyant Red lacquer I bought from RS Paint left over from when I painted my A65. If it of any help in matching the colour, I can send you a small sample assuming it hasn't solidified in the bottom of the pot.

that would be appreciated. i will pm you me details.

Ok. I will have to move a few motorbikes out of the way first to get at my paint shelf and will let you know later whether the red lacquer is still viable.

Spaceman

I managed to dig out a small sample of the lacquer - please pm your details and I will post it to you on Monday.

Have done many thanks.
