Help with engine number
«

Hello, I am in the process of becoming a member of the BSAOC. I have recently purchased a 1971 BSA A65 Lightning, which apparently has a Devimead 750 big bore kit.
I am having trouble dating the engine. The engine code is A65D 42*9. * is to not fully reveal the whole engine number. My frame number tells me its a June 1971 bike.
Thanks
Dave

A65D decodes as a Lightning Rocket and 46*9 indicates its from the 1965 season. Probably exported.
You can see for yourself on the BSAOC website under "machine dating"

Yes I looked at the machine dating page, how did you suppose I deciphered the frame number?...I was not quite sure on the engine, I narrowed it down to 1964-65 but could do no better, was looking for confirmation. Thanks
