A10 shoes in M20 drum?
« on: 10 October, 2017, 21:35:20 »
I have no brake shoes for my WM20 and they are very hard to firnd. I have a spare set of 7" A10 shoes that fit but the ends of the shoes are somewhat narroer than the cam and fulcrum pin. Would this cause problems?

I would not  want to let the shoes potentially move sideways on cam or pivot and think you would have to devise some sort of spacing collar.

The WD M20 shoes take 1 3/8 inch wide linings and the common A7 A10 shoes are 1 1/8 wide.

The WD shoes are the same as used on many models from the mid 1930s, M19-M24 Y13 and G13, part 35 9235.

Feked list them new with grey stuff linings at about 60.

Thanks Julian.
Given the problems with old brake systems and modern traffic the nailin the coffin for me was the A10 linings having such a small surface area compared to th proper M20 linings. Less friction surface = reduced braking efficiiency. The M20 may not be fast but it has plenty of mass and like all my bikes brakes, they have to cope with my increasing mass ;)

H :)

i Good to hear that they are available, as I have been unable to find any.( same old story: looked in the wrong places)

Having the same problem, I was seriously considering fixing 2.5mm plate on the inside of the drum and on the back plate to centralize the narrower shoes and decrease the probability of "wobble", or indeed of the shoes running out of line and jamming

I know there would still be some side space but it would cut it down to only about 1.5mm

Unless I got it absolutely perfik 3mm plate would be pushing it.
