I had ridden my new B44 only a few times, maybe 50 miles.
Apart from a big end clanking, the gearbox sounded noisy.
I used a syringe to get oil in the tiny filler hole, up to the mark on the dipstick.
I wondered if the primary was also running dry.
I could not be sure which was the oil level screw. Rupert ratio did not seem to cover my model.
When I started up, oil was gushing out from the sprocket area.
I did a trip to a jazz concert, four miles away. The clutch was slipping badly, 50 mph max.
On the return it was almost back to normal.
I assumed that one of the seals was leaking, or perhaps missing.
I tried to order two new seals ,but could not find the part numbers for these.
I have difficulty bending down, but finally found the there were two small screws, together under the middle of the primary case.
These must be the level and drain plugs. I drained the excess oil and I think the problem is solved.
Then I read in the ratio book that the chain oiler was a problem, and should be removed. I will try that today.
