Identify model please
« on: 19 August, 2017, 20:07:15 »
Hello to all
A friend brought me a BSA sloper for restoration..
I did restore a lot of BSA with the last one being a BSA A7 1961.
The sloper frame number is P16*** and engine J16**
I cant ride the whole numbers cause my client doesnt allow me.
So i checked a lot on net and didnt found exactly what is the model is..i got very closed to BSA S29 althought but not too sure
Also i didnt found anything for restoration the engine so i order one instruction book which im not sure how much will help me
I really want ur help at least about what model of BSA is..
Regards

Can you post photos of the bike, that would help identify it.

Is it side valve or overhead valve?

One exhaust or 2?

The bike is side valve..one exsaust
But last night i made a search on BSAOC frame and engine numbers and i found that the model is S29 side valve sloper 1929
I will post a foto tomorrow
the bike doesnt have electric lights but acetylene ones
And i have only the headlamp..so im missing the rear light and the acetylene bottle
Other big parts that i miss is the rear stand and spring and the ftont and rear numberplates..
I hope i can get a help in this forum to find thode parts

The website "British Only Austria" has stands for sale, and "Cornucopia" have rear number plates and also springs for the stand.  The parts on both sites are expensive.

Hi Emilios,
I am no expert, but it looks your bike is a side valve and the fitting you asked about is a compression tap like part number 15-94 and EA 110 shown in the attached extract from a 1929 parts book.  A photo of the other side of the bike would be useful.
Cheers,
Bevan

This isthe S29 side valve from the 1929 catlogue.

You can just about see the compression tap.

Hi Julian,
Just curious - what do you think about the mudguard shape in Emilios photo ? I've seen, "in the flesh" one 1929 500 cc twin port OHV with that wide mudguard with the forks penetrating the guard, but all others I've seen (including mine) have the narrow, valanced front guard.
Can't tell from the 1929 parts book if a mudguard option was that wide one or not.
Any ideas ?
Cheers,
Bevan

I think the wide mudguard is part 24 7164 described on page 172 of the 1929 book as 8 3/4 inch wide and illustrated on page 173.

Thanks to all guys..
DEREKANDERSON8 the bike u send me foto of in not the same..the big difference is that mine is sloper and i have the magneto behing engine plus i have the oil in the crankcase and u have a oil tank next to fuel tank i guess..
As about the front mudguard it was hard for me to find a bike like this or a foto..but im guessing maybe cause the bike was fitted with sidecar?not sure

Monograde SAE 40 non-synthetic will be fine
BSA 1930s nut.

Trying to collect all 1936 models. Still missing the B3.
