1961 BSA B40 Original Condition ?
« on: 19 July, 2017, 12:50:32 »
Afternoon,
Here's a 1961 B40, is this in original unrestored condition ?
Frame - B40. 1927
Engine - B40 1805
The speedo, controls, levers, even the tank badges, look ok ?
Rims are marked Dunlop, the carb is 376 424 which is for a Royal Enfield I think.
Any how does it looks ok ?

Many thanks
Scott

 Photo from the1961 brochure.

They came in either red or black.

It looks almost all there including all the important tinware.

A few minor things, I think someone has painted at least some of it - the brake plate and plate on rear wheel would have had silver painted centres not black ones and the dipswitch would have been Ducon. But there will amost always be some parts which have been changed or altered over the last 56 years.

The plate is not contemporary with the bike and could be the result of a previous owner selling the original number. However it probably could be changed for an age related one via DVLA.

An enquiry with the BSAOC Dating officer would tell you whether it left the factory as a matched frame/engine, when it left the factory, the colour and to which dealer it was despatched.
