I think the parts drawing is a bit confusing. If your tank has a simple tube down the middle then the arrangement shown in my pic and Julian's earlier drawing are correct. However, some tanks had a small cup in the top of the tank tube and a tubular bung was designed to fit in this cup and was pulled down by the nut on the end of the fixing bolt - it wasn't designed to expand like the shaped bung in my pic. The parts book picture appears to show both means of fixing the tank.

We were in Belgium three years ago, bike insured on a classic policy with breakdown cover or so we thought, the bike broke down and we called the insurance company, when the driver arrived we were informed they wanted paying in cash no cards accepted, we rang up the insurance company who told us break down assistance means they assist you with the breakdown but will not pay, we pointed out the policy states we will get you home,  they will get you home but take the bike to a safe place of storage the bike is up to you to recover, cost 300 in Belgium to get to the ferry and then another 200 to get home from Hull.
This was with one of the Major Classic insurance companys who have been endorsed by the BSAOC i do not in any way blame the BSAOC what i am saying is we are all very easily conned and insurance policy wording it very misleading, you read "we will get you home" you ashume you are covered but it did not say we will get your bike home

There are none on mine and they have been fitted for 13 years without problems. I would ignore them.

AWJDT's photo of parts, and the explanation of how the arrangement works, seem very clear. But the drawing kindly shown by AWJDT shows a rubber sleeve(41-8020). What is that for?  Also, I notice there are more washers on the drawing than on the photo?  As always, any advice is much appreciated.  Phil (novice)

PS Will spring ever arrive?

 :)Hi gents.

Remind me please---I believe that the only difference between the "early" head and the 1966/70??? head is the change to the drilling of the two rear head bolt holes. From 5/16th to 3/8th. Would one of you kind guys confirm this for me please. I cant find anything else    except maybe the threads --CEI to BSF/BSW????????. I really cant remember(AGE AGEN)

I have acquired a pair of NOS chrome front footrests with correct nuts and bolts and they fit perfect. They come with two spacers that are about 1/4" thick. They can only fit on the inside before the nut goes on as these footrests have locating pins to match the frame. I cannot see what their purpose is ? . No sign of these spacers on the parts list or could they be for a triple. ? Thanks.
