The Star and Garter / A65 - first registration help...
« Last post by Bess on 09 December, 2017, 13:36:34 »
Hi All,
Has anyone had experience of the following and found a solution?

I have completed a A65 with a 1968 engine and 1966 frame. I have a dating certificate and vehicle report informing me they were both exported to the USA on 7.11.1968 and 10.6.1966 respectively. I bought engine cases only and a bare frame from Ebay about 8 years ago at different times from sellers in the UK, collecting and buying the necessary parts to complete a full bike.

I have contacted HM revenue and customs (HMRC) for the documentation required to apply for a registration with the DVLA. HMRC will not issue the document until I forward:

1. C88/E2 import entry document
2. bill of sale, purchase invoice or a valuation from a local garage
3. Evidence if VAT has been paid.

Item 1 will be impossible to obtain, a valuation of the frame and engine casings should be okay and VAT paid will never be discovered.

Any advice or help would be welcomed.

Best wishes...

Singles / Re: B44, Bigend, Piston. Bad vibration.

Quick test run this morning.
Vibration just as bad.

Crankshaft alignment.
I replaced my C15 bigend myself. When it came to realigning the shaft, the best I could get was -
drive side, 1 thou out. Timing side, 7 thou out.
repeated tries just moved the error back and forth.
The engine runs fine, no excessive vibration.

My B44 big and small ends were replaced by ALPHA, who also realigned the shafts and checked the balance factor.
I can live with the vibration, but the bike tends to shed bits on the road!

Edges of the rings showed only partial contact, not bedded in,  after just over 1000 miles - changed the rings to NOS Brico which bedded in very quickly.

Link takes you to a bit more information about new hepolite;

Holds approx 30 spanners etc. and a few spares.
My seat is now just rested in place on the two studs. secure when riding, just lift off for access.

Hi What symptom did you have to suggest that your rings weren't bedded in. Loss of compression--smokey exhaust==fuel/oil droplets in exhaust.

Would be nice to hear if anyone else has had the same problem.

4" badges with BSA and a star background are available in Black, Green (A7SS) and Red (Gold star)
I have the black ones on my B31 with polished alloy tank, they look rather good

Thanks Andy . Now been advised that what I appear to have is a shooting star tank on a B31 based on the size of the badges being 4 inch dia which I have measured off the broken badge I have.

The red badge with the 3 rifles was fitted to all B31/33 with round badges. The Bantam badges with BSA and a star also fit
