Singles / Re: B44, Bigend, Piston. Bad vibration.

answering my own question!
I checked again.
Gripping the piston with both hands, push up and down, moving around and sideways.
Finally found a point where a very small amount of play was felt. Enough to hear a small click.
Im guessing that that is the answer?? ANY play is not acceptable??

Suggestions for a good supplier for replacement bearing please.

Singles / B44, Bigend, Piston. Bad vibration.
« Last post by MICKREEVES on 13 October, 2017, 10:24:38 »
My B44 vibrates badly on a light throttle opening, opening to accelerate stops the vibration,
closing throttle to overrun stops it as well. This is most noticeable at high RPM.
So bad, bits are dropping off or breaking.

I thought it must be bigend play, or possibly smallend or mains.
I have stripped the top end this morning.
No play to be found at all. I  cant mend something if it aint broke!

I wonder about balance factor?  The piston is 71/798, 1/2 mm oversize. It looks quite normal.
I see bsa part numbers. 41/794 standard, 41/795 + 10 thou, 41/797  + 20 thou (1/2mm)

The engine is not loose in the frame. I cant think what it can be.
I will order a new rocker gasket, and rebuild when it comes.
Any suggestions? Do they ALL have this fault??

Having fun registering my Bultaco Sherpa from 1972. Had it for years and it has never been registered. Got so far but Swansea want a Nova certificate...  Who in turn want full certificate of confirmity in English . As Bultaco ceased making these or any bikes in the seventies , more chance of plaiting fog. Got a copy of the Spanish import doccuments that relate to year of manufacture , possibly acceptabe they say. Last thing from them was please telephone us... Number is not accepting calls at present... Think there are 'jobs worth' type working in government departments trying to keep their jobs....  >:(   Griff

I tried a C15 tank. it is too long to fit.
I would like to try a c25 tank, one of the larger volume ones,
but they are hard to find, and expensive to try.

7:1 is absolutely fine for present day petrol which is rather lower octane rating than was around when A65s were produced. You won't notice the miniscule power loss.

Thank you for your reply,, yes, i looked into it, it seems a bit of work involved to get a v5c for the original registration, i have to take pictures of the bike, get them signed by a civil servant of sort, send them, the original registration docs with a fee to the club, then i think they contact DVLA? I may place the engine into the bike just for the photos.
i have decided to get the bike a new set of WIDE trail tyres, and get the engine running, replacing all the old electrics, keep the rest pretty much original, (original patina)!! :P The frame has been properly painted, although the previous owner seems to have cut off the rear mudguard brackets, that are usually located at the rear section under the seat.

7.5:1 pistons are shown in the late parts books as an option for A65.

Pre 1966 standard models were fitted with same ratio.

Right click on the photo then open with "Paint" , click on resize, click on "pixels" the go to box marked "horizontal" and insert a lower figure. Or click "percentage" and insert a lower figure.
